The Hobbit Hole V - Where Many Paths and Errands Meet...
ecurbh

Posted on 12/11/2003 2:07:57 PM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Where Many Paths and Errands Meet...

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Two hydrogen atoms walk into a bar. One says, "I've lost my electron." The other says, "Are you sure?" The first replies, "Yes, I'm positive..."

That's great!

Good solution 2J. Nuther helpful hint if you need it, which you may not...

... when I work with meat like that I like my plastic thicker than regular plastic wrap so I slit open the sides of a Ziplock sandwich bag and use it. Sometimes the meat still wants to stick to the plastic so I just use my finger and rub cooking oil over the plastic so the meat doesn't stick to it.

Also, if you'll get a little bowl of cold water and set it where you're working, get your hand wet in it before you pick up the pressed patties and it will keep them from sticking to your fingers then.

I hate working on cars, honestly.
Of course, after having the missus blame every car quirk on me I would naturally dislike having to touch the cars.
My computer I've ixed myself.
had a bios update failure occur.
So I had to get a bios recovery kit and hot swap the bios rom.
Laptops are outside of my arena of knowledge, despite my first computer being a 486dx2 66 laptop.
My second machine was an AST Adventure 200 pentium 100.
Third machne was a homebuilt AMD K6-2 500 that I resurrected several times.
And when that motherboard finally died, I built my current machine.
Grabbed an Abit NF7-S ultra 400 board, some Kingston memory, and borowed a processor off of my father.
(Who will be repossessing it about the same time my replacement chip gets here.)
Oddly, the video card doesn't like the newest video drivers for it.
Seems it's a card bios conflict.
NVidia is at a loss to explain it, but they did say that a small number of GeForce 3 ti200 cards did have issues with the newest drivers.
(Reason one why there are no new GeForce 3's being made, but there are GeForce 2's and GeForce 4's being made.)

"dayo" is like "am" or spanish "soy"

I think I'm going to apply at Rosie's rollege and take a few simesters there, and maybe transfer to Prince Edward Island or go into the military, anyway her college has a really good graphic art department.

Not dirty; tenacious!!

It's bad when Audiovox sells junk to troops that paid their own meager money for. It's worse that the company ignores their most important customers. So we'll be tenacious in first getting good radios to our guys. Then we'll fight dirty to make Audiovox regret the day they ever messed with our troops.

How are you going to go into the military? Won't your eyes disqualify you?

Any chance you can get a discount at Rosie's college since she works there?

I went over to the marine recruiter's office, and took there pre-test. I got every vocab problem right. Didn't do as good as I wanted on the math though. I need to study up a bit, I haven't needed to use it in years.

That's what I thought, but they told me that if my grades were good and if i talked to someone higher up, they probably would accept me... I would just have to do computer work or somthing like that, which is what I would want anyway.

Hey, that's excellent! Which branch are you looking at?

Heh, bet you feel about like I do right now, just wishing the future would get itself settled. I hate waiting on the edge of something, not knowing how it's going to turn out... am I going to grad school or not? Do I move out now, or wait until later?

One of my students who was homeschooled just took his test last week for the Navy. He made a 99. They were so surprised that they reportedly re-graded his test 6 times. He had only made an 87 on the pre-test.

He made a 99.

That's INSANE! That's out of 99 right? I was only in the 70's (on account of the math)

I chop lots of vegetables for our various meals and my hands would get really chapped in the winter, plus I hate the feel of uncooked meat. I had a box of disposable gloves left after OB's halo traction was removed and I not longer had to clean his pin sites, I started using the gloves for chopping vegetables and skinning raw (store-bought!) chickien, and I love 'em. You can get 'em on sale at Walgreen's, and I think Paper Warehouse carries a thinner variety.

Is this because you are homeschooled?? There is supposed to be a special consideration given for homeschoolers...I remember reading about it just recently...

Go hear and type in military...

I don't remember, but that decision was something about not classifying homeschoolers as dropouts. I don't think it said you didn't have to take a test.

I've thought about that before, but I am pretty sure the chicken water and such would just end up inside the gloves, I usually get it all over the place, I hate to say. I'm borderline incompetent when it comes to cooking! LOL

I don't mind the meat on my hands (astoundingly)...I just couldn't get the ground pork to not stick to my fingers! LOL It was like peanut butter!

No, I'm sure they'd make him take a test...but go back and get a diploma TOO? Why not just let him take the test and be done with it? If he scored well enough, what difference would it make if he got a diploma or not?

I swear my high school diploma is worth less to me than the current roll of toilet paper in my bathroom.

Mmm, good question. I don't know.

I figure my having a high school diploma won't matter one bit once I get my bachelor's, this May...
