Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Where Many Paths and Errands Meet...
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

the dogs have a pen... but there's a gap in it... they don't think their dogs would leave the pen... (in a pig's eye...) my wife told them they need to fix the pen...

g'nad; yup, the "our dogs never go off our place" type; got 'em in the city, got 'em in the country. A simple application of shoot-shovel-shutup may be what is called for. Unfortunate for all concerned but obviously necessary.

Elf-boy's godmother has a brother heading out to Iraq next week. I am working on an address for him. I will let you and WN know when I get it. (Got to show off the knife today.)

Elf-boy's godmother has a brother heading out to Iraq next week. I am working on an address for him. Please work fast. I'd much rather send it out while they're still here, rather than after they're overseas. Thanks for the good detective work.

Unfortunately, he is heading out from Germany, not from here. Else, I would have had his address sooner.

(He was home for Christmas on leave, but left before I could get his address, and Elf-boy's godmother doesn't know the Germany address ~ I'm going through his father to get the new address.)

I love dogs, but you're perfectly right, g'nad. If they go after you, what would they do to your stoopidbirds and your kids?
As for "oh, my dogs would never get out of our yard ..." Bullwheeze. I've owned dogs. When I was a kid, we put up an eight-foot-tall hurricane fence around our property. Even that didn't dissuade our dogs from escaping on occasion --- if they didn't dig out, they would crawl up that eight-foot chainlink fence to get out.
They're warned. Now do as you must.

I was watching via internet from the NASA/JPL website. Really cool. It went from 12,000 mph/102 miles up to ZERO/touchdown in thirty seconds.

I was watching via internet from the NASA/JPL website. Really cool. It went from 12,000 mph/102 miles up to ZERO/touchdown in thirty seconds.I can't get live video through the firewall, so I had to depend on the knowledgeable freepers on the live thread. It seems like the lander was rolling around for about half an hour, based on the fluctuating radio signal. Then they decided that the low earth angle was responsible for signal multipathing that made it look like the lander was rolling.
I'm glad they got that settled, since I was racking my brains, trying to figure out what would keep the thing rolling along for so long. It looks like it's not setting on the base petal, but it can right itself later. Waiting for news of NASA news conference later.

Pretty neat how any petal down works. Just unfold, and it self rights. But it's only upright when the base petal is on the ground. It keeps flipping from petal to petal until the base is on the ground. It's also pretty amazing how this bigger vehicle folds itself up into a volume the same size as the smaller Sojurner. That's because it had to fit inside the same airbag system and launch fairing.

I didn't realize they were the same airframe/air bag system. Makes sense though.
