The Hobbit Hole V - Where Many Paths and Errands Meet...
ecurbh

Posted on 12/11/2003 2:07:57 PM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Where Many Paths and Errands Meet...

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

My, you are chatsy this morning! I had a time catching up again from when I was catching up. I had to deal with the kids. I'm potty training the boy. It's been quite interesting :-) I'm gonna take my eldest to the doctor at 11, she woke up covered in a rash this morning. I have no idea what it could be. She hasn't had any dairy, I haven't changed soap or detergent and she hasn't been outside playing in any woods. What with everyone having colds and the flu I have seen the doctor more times than I care for! *sigh*

Durn tootin', seen Fargo a number of times. I love Cohen bros. movies, especially Raising Arizona. Haven't seen Lebowski yet though. I'll add it to my queue.

Something about rabbits with fangs and bloody faces.

Yep...that's it! The boys loved it!

Of course, they are used to things like LOTR and such.

I was the sensitive "mama's boy" when I was younger...terrified of clowns too.

Thankfully, spending a year with my dad at the right time in my life changed a lot of that.

You know, I've stumbled on to something...

You know every winter how Joshua's poor skin just gets so chapped and red if I don't apply lotion to him? Especially his face, will just look blistered.

Well, you know I've been giving him occassional oatmeal bath treatments, bathing him with Aveeno soap and then putting the Walmart equivalent to Aveeno lotion on him, especially his face. His precious face just got to feeling like a cotton ball! So soft and smooth!

So I thought "hmmmm...." and I thought I might try it on my own face! You know, I don't wear make-up and my only skin care that I do is washing with soap and water and a good exfoliating a couple of times a week with St. Ives Apricot Scrub. So, I tried it "lightly" and it's really very nice. It feels like my face has powder on it, not oily at all (which I can't stand!)

We'll see...the test will be if it breaks me out.

2J,

Do you use a humidifier in the house, or in his room? The extra moisture in the air really helped me when we were living in the condo and had electric heat. It got VEY dry in the house, especially in winter, and the humidifier worked wonders.

No...I need to get one, though...I think he would really benefit. We have gas heat and it just takes the moisture right out of his skin. Matthew and I aren't phased a bit...but Steve and Joshua really suffer.

Thanks all for the prayers. What a team of warriors we have here. I would trust my back to any of you.

I was a little confused last night about the details. Two of her sisters have died from this, but that was 15 yrs ago, about. She had some fibrous lumps removed a year ago, all benign. One of the spots came back. the doctor called it microscopic and calcified. They did the biopsy on Tues. and called her last night that it was malignant. And that there are more spots that are calcified and pre-cancerous. He listed her choices as 1 - remove the single breast in the radical mastectomy and do reconstructive surgery, then radiation treatment (not chemo, as I had originally thought). Remove both breasts and do reconstruction, then radiation. Remove only the area of the malignancy, and the other calcified tissues, then radiation. She said there was one more but she didn't remember it. She goes back today or Monday to discuss these choices. She calls the doctor at noon to see if he is out of surgery and available then. I don't know where I got the Saturday thing from.

My mom's asked me to find out anything I can on all of this on the internet. Anything you guys can enlighten, or direct to, would be appreciated.

I'm not too terribly worried. She's a mean fiesty redheaded woman. Tough - with a capitol T. And, she'll be thrilled to know about all who are praying for her, I know.

Thanks

Your family sounds a little like mine.... None of us should be too attached to our breasts!

I hope whichever path she chooses, it goes well. I think if it was me, I would opt for takin' them both out and hoping for a peaceful future without having to worry about ~them~ again.

Continued thoughts and prayers for you and your mom!

Some of the better ones can get a little pricey, so it took us a bit of time to get a good one.

In the meantime, we would half-fill a couple of empty coffee cans with water and place them on the heat registers. The register heats the can, which heats the water, which puts moisture in the air. Granted, it's not as effective or quick as a humidifier, but in a pinch, it worked out pretty well until we were able to get a decent model.

A similar thing happened to a very good friend of mine. She ended up having both breasts removed, and it was a long treatment time, but she's now completely healthy and living well!

Thanks for checking in with us...we hope and pray that everything will end up going well.
