The Hobbit Hole V - Where Many Paths and Errands Meet...
ecurbh

Posted on 12/11/2003 2:07:57 PM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Where Many Paths and Errands Meet...

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

We ate at the airport. It was actually pretty decent food...but I wish I'd been able to make it to a Popeye's at some point.

Next time! ;-)

There's a Popeyes about thirty miles from me. Come visit, I'll get you some.

Also I think we have Vernor's.

I think this is like Tabasco...I even call it Tabasco. But it's really called "The Original" Louisiana hot sauce...these guys...

I've gone crazy over it. Steve shakes his head in much the same way as he does over my bagel infatuation. I've always been (previously) a fairly even keel type person...no big changes, no U-turns...

But lately...

Oh, question for you.

I have to go to the client site tomorrow morning and I'll be in the office in the afternoon. Do you think it's ok to leave my laptop in my car, in it's bag, during the morning (say, 8:30 to 12:15)? It'll be about 15 degrees out and I really don't know what that could do to it.

What do you use in your hot wings?

Tabasco: vinegar: butter....in a ratio of (about) 1 1/2 tbsp: 1 1/2 tbsp: 1 tbsp. Adjust to taste. That's for a pound or so of wings.

The recipe I started from said to fry the wings first, but I just salt them lightly and bake in the oven (375) for 20 to 30 minutes. Turn halfway and bake until they're done.

You add the tabasco mixture before during or after the baking?

I toss the wings in the sauce after they're done in the oven.

Entmoot 2004: There and Back Again, a Hobbit’s Tale

Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004

The plan this morning was for the NASA crowd (Hair, Ramius, and ecurbh in one vehicle, the g’nads in their van, and SuziQ with JenB in their van) to get going at 8:00….I believe the last van left at 8:30. For breakfast I dared use the Toaster of Coulter Castle to toast a bagel. Took a picture of the “Toaster of Doom at Coulter Castle Falls in with Evil Companions” (the likker bottles are there on the window sill behind it.) It’s best not to unplug the Toaster….do not unleash the Toaster! After the breakfast dishes were done I got my laundry going followed by the towels. There were lots of towels! We had Bugs Bunny on as background noise. Mrs. Ksen is sacked out on the couch, ksen and his boys are playing pool and have Celtic music playing on the box. Rosie and her siblings and Wneighbor are talking about different things….SAT’s, country music, Johnny Cash, Garth Brooks (….and Jen’s missing it!)

It was another lazy day at the beach…the kind I like. We decided that it wasn’t the Toaster that was evil….it’s the Couch. Once you settle it, you have to fight your way back out of it. Wneighbor, Rosie, and I watched Casablanca. (I made periodic trips downstairs to keep the towel laundry process going. Ksen’s boys seem to be getting bored already….wandering around, in and out, etc. Ksen was playing pool with them for a while. Rosie’s siblings played cribbage or did a puzzle or something at that table beside the telescope. They eventually settled downstairs watching Anime (I keep wanting to type “amine” as in –NH2…. At some point someone opened the sliding glass door and the door to the garage to air that lower level out.

Mrs. Ksen’s folks came over to visit for much of the afternoon (her mother, father, and an aunt – I think – and they brought a cute little peke dog. They hung out at the pool so the ksen kids ended up being not so bored after all. At one point Bilbo was out on the back deck playing the bagpipes and later, his canter. Wneighbor had a couple of hours of naptime before heading out to the pool (Mrs. Ksen’s family had left by then. I spent a couple of hours reading on the back deck and getting some sun. Outside of the fact that the sun feels so good, I need to look like I’ve been to Florida when…gasp…I have to go back to work.

At some point, ksen obtained a coconut from the neighbor: he just asked for it – it was as simple as that so we have no tales of clandestine coconut thievery to tell. Ramius should be happy….The Code has been upheld. Wneighbor presented it to Hair without revealing for a long time where/how she got it.

Lunch was whatever you could find in the refrigerator: wings, pasta, grilled chicken, salad, broccoli. I believe it was Mrs. Ksen who cut up a couple of cantaloupes. We got the ice machine working a bit but needed to get some store-bought ice and water.

I put Fawlty Towers on. Ksen’s daughter watched as many of them as I played which was all but the last two. Well two and a half. …we switched in the middle of Kipper and the Corpse to watch the Bakshi version of LOTR that SuziQ rented on the way back from NASA.

But first…..supper! Wneighbor made taquitos, bean dip, and guacamole. We also brought out the salsa now that the herbs have had a chance to blend. I don’t usually go for Mexican food, but that was vey good!

A post from Corin: he thinks he left a pair of Addidas soccer slides or something….I’ll have to go back and check. I’m not quite sure what “slides” are. He wanted to know if we found a pair. Someone did (they look like sandals) and Hair posted a picture of Corin’s shoes sticking out from under the toilet seat. Corin thinks his slides are going to go the way of Flat Frodo and I’m afraid he might be correct. He won’t need those until spring, right?

Back to the film. The Bakshi film was voted the worst LOTR film ever made by Entmoot 2004. I had to take it with whiskey, neat. ( Actually, I wanted to try the Wild Turkey Reserve – 10 years old – without anything else interfering with the flavor) followed by Irish Cream. Most everyone in the movie was was wearing mini-skirts, even the Rohirrim. Hmmmm…….do men of Gondor insist on no skivvies even when wearing mini-skirts? Aragorn had skivvies with his little outfit. Rosie thought she saw Boromir’s skivvies but no one confirmed. We had had enough of Bakshi for one night and no one wanted to watch it again. After that they put on an action movie that I don’t remember the name of…some flick with a lot of cussin’, car wrecks, explosions and stuff. The anime group convened downstairs. I was freeping through the action flick and then went downstairs and caught the last couple of episodes of Escaflowne …or whatever. I’m sure I didn’t spell it right. This is the one with the spontaneous sex changing character…..okaaaaayyyyy. Time for bed at around 1:00.

Just melt the butter in the sauce pan and mix in the vinegar and tabasco.

I like dipping mine in ranch or blue cheese dressing.

I absolutely love hot wings...

I'll get the stuff tomorrow. I think I need to even get the vinegar and we're almost out of the "Original" hotsauce, now is a good time to try Tabasco.

This right?

Per pound of baked chicken wings add:

Tabasco 1½ tbsp
vinegar 1½ tbsp
butter 1 tbsp

It should be fine...HOWEVER, turning it on before it's completely warmed up again would be a bad idea. Cold doesn't hurt electronics, in my experience...but turning them on when they've been cold and condensation has built up can be bad.

So...basically it's OK IF you'll have time to let it warm up again before using.

Though Rose may have another opinion, I don't know. ;-) We deal with a lot of cold laptops up here, though!

You did spell Escaflowne right! Good job!

Mr/Ms Spontaneous Sex Change is named Dilandu, or Celena, depending.

And yeah, Bakshi was bad.
