The Hobbit Hole V - Where Many Paths and Errands Meet...
ecurbh

Posted on 12/11/2003 2:07:57 PM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Where Many Paths and Errands Meet...

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

What a disgusting story. It's too cold here for bugs (I'm telling myself)

Good night! See you tomorrow, hobbits.

When I went to Venezuela one of my friend's brothers was just amazed that I liked checking out the plants, bugs and spiders. One day we went out to his ranch for the day and he was so proud of himself when he found a snake to give me! He just knew I would love it!!!

Imagine his surprise when I ran to the house and climbed a ladder that just happened to be there onto the roof! LOL

What a disgusting story.

Oh... that's nothing... those banana spiders also liked to just drop out of the trees onto your back for no apparent reason.

Good night!!

If it's cold and you are not seeing bugs it's only because they have found a nice cozy warm place to lay up and wait for warmer weather Jen. *ducking*

Nah ... try cayenne pepper instead of paprika sometime.

Gives potato salad a nice kick.

Heh....she didn't even use the sleeping bag on the trip (camping at the beach). It was kind of funny. Mom got up that morning and said that she was kind of almost asleep and she thought she heard my sister and Dad discussing how to get the snake out of her room.

They might scratch your back if you let 'em. :-)

Reminds me of the time that I was seeing this nursing student over in Virginia, while I was at a CG school in Yorktown. I was in her dorm room with a bunch of my CG shipmates and a bunch of her friends...

...only to find out that her roommate had a tarantula. But I found out the hard way. They thought it would be funny to just let Mr. Tarantula have the run of the room before we got there. So there I was leaning my chair back up against her desk when Mr. Tarantula thought it would be a good time to crawl up onto my shoulder and say "Howdy!".

I think the echoes of my screams are stills echoing around the grounds of that nursing school. I pretty much hit the ground running and never looked back...

Spiders don't scratch. That's part of the problem.

Think it's an attack of some sort?

We were having traffic problems at work, so I was attributing it to that...but it's been even slower from here!

Gentlebeings:

We are in the midst of a worm attack.

It's Beagle, or Bagle <by the Whorls of Remaal!> Nasty worm that grabs all the address books on your drive and starts mailing itself to them. Telltale evidence of infection: suddenly Windows Calculator pops up without your executing it.

From Symantec:

=============

W32.Beagle.A@mm is a mass-mailing worm that accesses remote Web sites and sends email to any addresses it finds using its own SMTP engine. The email has the following characteristics:

Subject: Hi
Filename: .exe
Filesize: 15,872 bytes

The worm will only work until January 28, 2004. ...

Some customers have reported that Trojan.Mitglieder.C has been discovered on computers infected with W32.Beagle.A@mm.

Oh dear! That had to be *really* bad for you.

One thing about it, having my own phobia keeps me aware of making sure no one else's phobia's get aggrevated. Cause I don't want nothin' like that happenin' to me!

Well, actually, I guess I wouldn't be so freaky about snakes myself except that my dad always thought it was funny to put 'em in my stuff when I was a kid. Even my bed! He's not normal - in case you didn't know that yet.

When I was pregnant with Myranda he was really into rattlesnake handling. Had one he carried around in a bucket in his pickup. One day Myranda's dad and I had gone over to mom and dad's for supper. We were in separate vehicles cause he'd come from work and I'd driven in from home. I was about 7 months pregnant with Myranda at the time. Daddy had been in the front yard with the snake out playing with it just before I was leaving. I went to get in my truck and Myranda's dad came running out to the street shouting, "Don't get in yet honey!" I had the door open getting in and turned to look at him and he grabbed me and said, "NO! You're taking my truck home tonight!" Kinda ticked me off cause we used to race some when we got out on the back roads going home and he'd just dropped the motor from his drag car into my pickup and I thought he just wanted it cause it was faster. He just grabbed me and firmly took me to his truck and told me I was driving his truck home and that he'd be leaving about 5 minutes after me. When he got home he told me daddy had put his snake (a freakin' rattlesnake!) under my pickup seat cause he thought it would be funny!

At my company we as yet have zero infections from said worm. But then again we have about four levels of antivirus before something gets to a desktop. We've been pretty bulletproof since the first round of Anna K a couple of years ago.

But then again... I confiscate any .exe file on any mail. Makes the problem somewhat easier to avoid.

Mushrooms? Not in the desert, sirrah!

West Texas (the geographical region, as opposed to West, Texas, a Czech town which is really in the east-central part of the state) is a magnificent part of the world. The high semi-desert is wonderful!

I would love to go to Marfa and Alpine to chase my genealogy ... Mamma taught in both those towns, and I think she's part of an exhibit at Sul Ross State near Alpine.

Hmmm ....
