The Hobbit Hole V - Where Many Paths and Errands Meet...
ecurbh

Posted on 12/11/2003 2:07:57 PM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Where Many Paths and Errands Meet...

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Too late now! That just burns me up....

Did Theresa's friend drink a little out of every can?

*Secret handshake*
I'm not Vernor's obsessed either.
Honest.
But it was available around Toledo Ohio last I knew.
Along with Dad's Rootbear.
(Wonder how many will remember THAT one?)

That was about the only one left.

She only wasted one can, but it was a precious thing! ;-)

Calls for a cup and a half of butter.

My arteries are salivating...lol

Wow, I haven't seen DAD's in a long time.

Vernor's is in many supermarkets in this area.

Heh...we never paid much attention to the recipe, though Mom used it often.

After she passed away, Dad decided one day to make brownies and was shocked at the butter content...he ranted about it for some time, while making 'em. That's probably one of the reasons they're so good!

I was watching a Julia Child special a while back. Live audience and all. Playing to the aud. she said, "If you don't want to use butter, you can use cream instead" The aud. burst out laughing.

It used to just be available in the Midwest, especially Michigan, where it was originally made. Now it's available just about all over the country...except the Northeast. Of course. :-(

When we got to Entmoot, on the very first night we were there when we were watching the Rankin and Bass atrocity (which pales in comparison to the Bakshi atrocity), ksen came up behind me and set a 2-liter bottle of Vernor's on my lap. I was a very happy hobbit! I think we went through that first bottle in a matter of minutes...

But now they're saying that butter is much better for you than margerine, right? And chocolate has antioxidants...

Hm...

Ramius and Hair didn't believe me about the carbonation in Vernor's being able to make you choke if you're not careful. I had to use one of the cans at Entmoot to prove it.

They are believers now.

Netflix is a great service, Seamus! We've been members since Oct. 2000, and have not had any problems at all. The best part for you and me is that Worcester is a distribution center so when you mail the movies back, the wait time is not as long. We'll mail it, they receive it the following day, and usually ship us the new one that same day! We must have over 100 movies in our queue right now!

ecurbh is right; the best part is not having to go out and see if the video store has the movie, then worry about whether or not you remember to get it back on time. With Netflix, you just don't get a movie to replace that one until you send it back. With their basic service, you can have 3 movies out at any one time. There are LOTS of movies for kids, so you can always order some for Autumn when you order yours.

For Christmas this year, SSQ bought the parts to make a MONDO subwoofer for our TV room in the basement. We watched FoTR to 'christen it'. The WALLS were vibrating during the "Sauron buys it" scene, and we got that distinctive rolling low sound we heard in the theater!! IT WAS AWESOME! We do a lot of movie watching as a family, so it's great having some nice equipment.

Yeah....haven't used margarine in years.

Eat what you want and wait for the next study to come out. :)

LOL! Yeah, I did that once or twice. Gotta remember to let the can "breathe" a bit before taking that first sip...
