The Hobbit Hole V - Where Many Paths and Errands Meet...
ecurbh

Posted on 12/11/2003 2:07:57 PM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Where Many Paths and Errands Meet...

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

You've not seen Texas, hon, not till you see it through my eyes

Oh GIRL! It sounds like a whole 'nother country! ;o)

I went through Texas a couple of times on our way to visit my brother at the AF Academy in the late 60's. Out in West Texas, there were so many miles of empty rolling hills that my Daddy said that he almost expected to see a stagecoach come over a rise being followed by outlaws! We stopped at Six Flags on one of the trips on what must have been the hottest day of the summer; it was BRUTAL! Then once we visited that same brother in Lubbock, or somewhere nearby, when he was stationed at an AF base there.

When I was growing up, Texas seemed so far away from Mississippi. I didn't leave the state until I was 9 and my dance teacher had some of us in her class in Hattiesburg join her students in Bogalusa, LA for a dance recital. I mainly remember how stinky the paper mill was! LOL!

Penn Station before it was down.

Reminds me of Union Station in Philly.

Reese AFB. I spent my 8 years active duty there.

I think my problem is mostly that I suffer from ethnic blandness - coming from a nice White Anglo-Saxon Protestant family, I tend to get "spooked" by people with actual regional or ethnic customs

Yeah, girl. You gotta get out more! ;o)

IIRC, they had to delay the release of Spider-Man so they could edit the twin towers out of the skyline.

Suzi, please tell Clare that this anime is worse than crack.

LOL!! David told me about a messenger bag he saw once on which was embroidered the statement, "ANIME: Crack is cheaper"!

And the episode where every word out of Cartman's mouth began with "F!" And they counted!

LOL!! We got the movie Panic Room from Netflix, and when we read a 'Kid friendly' movie review of it, it mentioned that the 'F' word was said 47 times. It looked like a good story, so we made the judgement to let Joseph watch it, reminding him that we don't say that word in our house, and it better never come out of his mouth! ;o)

He dedided to count the times the word was said, and it turned out to be more like 65 times. The fact that he was counting kinda took the novelty out of the word, which was a good thing. It was hilarious to watch him when the count went over what we had expected. He just howled each time the word was said.

I need her email address, it's really tough not being able to just talk to everyone.

Her e-mail has been down for awhile, though I'm not sure why. I think she never got it back up after the last re-fit of her computer. I'll have her freepmail it to you when she gets it going again.

Astin Takes Us Into Awards Season Tornado
BECK/SMITH HOLLYWOOD EXCLUSIVE

Astin Takes Us Into Awards Season Tornado

Although Sean Astin insists he does not consider himself a shoo-in for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination, plenty of other people do. Thus, the "Lord of the Rings: Return of the King" actor has found himself making like Dorothy's "Wizard of Oz" farm house, spinning in a whirlwind toward the outer reaches of the rainbow.

"There's no rule book for this moment. I want to honor each interaction and leave everyone with the feeling, 'He's so nice,' but it gets impossible," Astin admits. "I have to decide which business opportunities to take advantage of, but there's no time to look at them.

"The route director on my incoming email is unbelievable," adds Sean. "I finally put my head into the email yesterday for nine hours, until my wife came in and said I looked surly, and I went to read a book to my seven-year- old daughter before she went to sleep." He has months of regular mail to go through.

Lately, Astin reports he's found himself staying up 24 hours at a time and sleeping 10-15 hours. After months of global traveling and promoting, "My body clock responds differently than it used to."

He recalls, "When the first 'Lord of the Rings' film came out, I didn't have any money in the bank and I was racing to lose weight to fit into shelf sizes of formal clothes -- and begging people for favors."

Now he has stylist Deborah Waknin (P. Diddy, Leonardo Di Caprio) putting together his look for every event. When Astin returned from a recent trip to South Africa, he says she arrived at his house 15 minutes after he did "with five racks of clothes." He tried on the designer gear as fast as he could, "until the limo arrived" and he was whisked to another destination.

Sean tells us he and wife Christine keep reminding each other that everything's great and the chaotic crunch is "a crisis of imagination." And "Return of the King," he knows, "is a benchmark of my life. When I die, they'll play the footage."

Oh! Tom DID talk about the Hobbit Hole! He tried to find us and I have to email him a link to us as soon as I get home.

I want ya'll to know that the first hug I gave him I told him was from all our posters and I got all teary eyed. He told a couple of stories which I need to type up this week and post to everybody on the list. I don't have my list with me so I'm not gonna try to do it now.

But, it did sound like his knife saved his life at least one time and it saved the lives of several of our other soldiers! Of course I also teared up upon hearing this. Our efforts saved lives of our soldiers! I have tears again!

So it's back to the old low-carb eating plan today

That's what Jess and I have been doing since October, and it's worked out very well for us.

I've got a great recipe for a "Meat crust pizza" which is just fabulous, if you want it!

I think the casting for LOTR was pretty well perfect. I even liked Agent Smith as Elrond. But Sean Astin was even more perfect than the rest of 'em.

Everyone should visit the Texas Hill Country at least once! It's never something anyone expects to find in Texas. I have lots of family photos of outtings there. I'll have to scan some and post them someday! :-)

One thing about it. I have ridden my bike on some of the most popular riding roads all over the US, but my favorite highway is still highway 337 between Leakey and Vanderpool Texas. It's in the same class as Needles Highway and Spearfish Canyon which every biker in the US knows are a must. But, few know of 337. I kinda like that part about it. :-)
