I was always unclear as to why the real Baltar got any respect from the cylons. He was a wuss.

I think the new Baltar is not yet done betraying mankind. No way he should have stepped on that ship after seeing the cylon chickee-poo.

As to his motivations, it reminds me of a sort of Lex Luthor thing from Smallville. Was Lex always evil, or did things just turn out badly?

I guess I should change my name to the dude watches tv.

I sure loved that show when I was a kid.

This ain't the same Battlestar Galactica you watched as a kid. Not even close.

According to this pale incarnation, the Cylons were created by man. Huh? Wha?

They've stolen the title and the names and totally changed the story. Only the names remain the same.

It's worth watching. It's still too early to make a final determination but the first two hours were very watchable.

But there are a few more shows where they can jump the shark :)

Yes the original BG was a bit cheesy, but it had som excellent moments.

Like in one of the episodes were Adama gives a speech about how the opposite of war is not peace, but slavery. Excellent speech.

Also, watching about Adama keeps to the surviving politicans from getting everyone killed is also fun to what even today.

My main gripe about the BG Remake is not Starbuck as a woman. But the change of how the Cylons were created. In the original series a now dead lizard race build the Cylons, though the humans are still sattled with fighting them, but the humans are innocent in that they did not create the Cylons.

Ahhh an another reason why I grew up loving sci-fi. Look at all those buttons :)

A shame Athena didn't translate to the new version.

The biggest tragedy of the old show was that they got her out of this uniform into one of the rather bland bridge officer uniforms. Thankfully, they didn't make that same mistake with Wilma Derring :)

It had only one one season of 24 episodes. The kid was there from the beginning and his robotic dog was there for most of the season. They did try a cheaper follow-up in 1980 called Galactica 1980 which only lasted ten episodes. It was supposed to be 30 years in the future when the Galactica reached Earth in 1980 AD (which was clearly unready to resist the Cylons). Only some of the old cast, including Lorne Greene, remained. The only decent episode was the final one, which showed what happened to Dirk Benedict's Starbuck in the past.

To me the movie was another reality from the computer game/Sci Fi book series. The movie had some interesting ideas but nothing to do with the earlier material.

Why didn't Buck nail her in the first episode?

Because she was a good girl.

Though, the stupid kid did go on to be decent in The Neverending Story. Of course, that was a more PC Euro fairy tale. *g*

The old show had a great slew of guest actors like Lew Ayres, Ray Milland, Wilfred Hyde-White, Fred Astaire, to name a few. When they were on screen they gave the show some real class. Yeah the old Galactica was sort of cheesy. I don't think most fans are proclaiming it to be high art. But it was a fun show and I don't need a dark, cynical, "adult" version bearing its moniker. It's BGINO as far as I can tell.

BTW, I liked the boy and his robot dog. The actor who played him was great in The Neverending Story, to speak of another movie/show that keeps getting sequels and remakes that never outdo the original.

Ah, Maren Jensen.....

Speaking of 9/11-ishness, I remember wondering how Lew Ayres let himself get get cast in his role in the first BG, considering his famous WW2 pacifism.

So, 60 billion dead and the show focused on a kid with a robot dog!

And this differs from our current news media in what way? 2,000+ murdered and incinerated Americans, 300,000 and counting tortured & murdered Iraqis, a world terror war still going on and our media focuses on Laci Peterson, Michael Jackson, and a car chase or two in LA.

The media was out to lunch on most every bloddy incident which led up to 911 too.

If there was a robot dog involved you can bet the TV & Cable news would be all over it like tobasco on red beans.

There's a post 9/11 dark reality to this show.

The multiple, nearly simultaneous nukes are chilling. Thoughts of prepositioned Soviet-era suitcases, Chi-Com container-ship nukes are hard to suppress...

Let's see, how does it differ?

Well, the "newsies" in "real world" view those who kill kids (in utero) as public heroes while those who would prevent this are portrayed as elementally evil sorts.

When it comes to robot dogs, the "newsies" simply ignore them, probably out of fear the dogs will take their jobs.

As I said, "Bagglegak" is/was just theatre.
