A new message was posted in the last few hours by the Jeddah-based al-Qaeda-linked Al-Islah (Reform) society calling on Muslims to flee New York, Washington and Los Angeles in advance of major al Qaeda attacks in those cities. This is revealed by DEBKAfile.

The message accuses the United States of predetermining its end (doom) by its policies. ?The Jews rule the Pentagon by remote control and (are the cause) of Muslims being killed in every corner of the world. The United States should therefore expect more blows.?

The message is signed on behalf of the al Bayan (The Threat) movement by ?your warrior brother, Abul Hassan al Khadrami?.

Our Muslim expert identifies the name of the signatory as belonging to a Yemeni from Hadhrameuth, the Bin Ladens? place of origin where Osama enjoys substantial tribal support.

DEBKAfile?s counter-terror sources stress that warnings appearing on these forums are taken both very seriously and with caution by the intelligence services keeping track of the terrorist network?s electronic traffic.

Last November, Jeddah-based fundamentalist forums addressed a message to an Al Qaeda member, saying whoever understands ? understands; whoever knows, knows, but we are marching towards an operation that will take us to Paradise. Three days later, the Mombasa Paradise hotel was blown up killing 12 Kenyans and 3 Israelis and a failed shoulder-launched Strela anti-air missile missed an Israeli airliner at Mombasa airport.

(CNN) -- The Tappahannock Police Department doubled its typical Christmas Day task force Thursday to handle the remote possibility that the small Virginia town may be the target of a terrorist attack, Mayor Ray Gladding said.

Instead of one officer patrolling the streets, the town will have two of its 10 officers working the holiday shift to keep Tappahannock's 2,000 residents safe.

The stepped-up patrol follows the raising of the national terror alert to orange (high).

The eastern Virginia town ended up on the FBI's worry list, which includes Los Angeles, California; Las Vegas, Nevada; New York; and Washington. Another rural Virginia area made the list of areas of concern too -- Rappahannock County, with 7,000 residents about 50 miles west of Washington.

"The FBI just told us they intercepted some chatter. They just heard the name," Gladding said. "Somewhere, in translation, the name Tappahannock, Rappahannock [was heard] -- they weren't really sure."

"They couldn't tell what context the words was used in."

As a result, state highway patrols have been beefed up through the town, and residents have been told to keep their eyes open for anything unusual. So far, little has attracted attention.

"We got one call yesterday about someone near a bridge," the mayor said. "It was a news crew from Washington taking pictures."

Things weren't much different Christmas afternoon, he said.

"Right now, I'm standing here looking over the town and it's pretty quiet. The news has kind of died down; everybody's kind of resigned themselves to the fact that we have to wait and see what happens."

Gladding said there was no obvious target for terrorists in the town, which is 30 minutes from the Chesapeake Bay and contains a number of small businesses, banks, light manufacturing plants, small retail stores, restaurants and an Episcopal girls' school. The town, surrounded by farmland and timber, is located 45 miles east of Richmond, Virginia, and 90 miles south of Washington.

Although Gladding won his $200-per-month job as mayor by running as an independent, the town voted for George W. Bush in the last election, he said.

About three dozen of the town's residents are Arab, he said.

One of them is Sameh Elattar, the Egyptian owner of Sunny Side Grocery Store, who said the FBI interviewed him and his employees Wednesday.

"We understand exactly what they are doing," he said. "They were very, very nice to us and we don't have any problem with them, and everything is going lovely."

He added, "We are part of this country and part of this town. We don't have any problem."

At Riverside Tappahannock Hospital, administrators spoke with law enforcement officials and were not told to take any special precautions, said spokeswoman Liz Martin. "They've told us, basically, to be on alert and be prepared as we normally would be. They haven't really given us any more reason to be concerned than that."

The 92-bed acute-care facility is prepared to deal with disasters and bioterrorist attacks, she said. "We're being aware of our surroundings and just trying to be alert to seeing what's going on and hoping that nothing will happen."

At the downtown Super 8 Hotel, Keesha Taylor -- in charge of the front desk and housekeeping -- said the 45-room hotel had just four guests, but that was not unusual and she was not aware of any cancellations.

"I don't think it's all that dangerous," she said, noting that she had seen more state troopers drive by the hotel than usual.

She was keeping an eye open for people who might be terrorists even though she's not sure what one might look like.

"A terrorist wouldn't look like somebody from around here," she said.

Karen Clark, a dispatcher with the Essex County Sheriff's Department, said state police and FBI agents have been in town, "But nothing's happened yet -- nothing that I know of."

Edward L. Hammond, who retired as mayor two years ago, said he didn't know what a terrorist would want to attack in the 300-year-old town. Aside from two water towers, the tallest structure in town is just five stories high, he said.

Still, he said, "You don't know. You got to believe something could happen."

And, he added, he was increasing his vigilance when looking at strangers -- for example, checking out people more closely than usual at the local McDonald's, where he usually eats breakfast.

"You'd be surprised," he said. "You set there and just watch the people. You never know."

(Tappahannock) In 1608, this area was first visited by Captain John Smith. The area was inhabited by Native Americans and when Captain Smith attepted to land here he was fiercely driven back to his ship. It was a Native American village and so he gave both the river and the village Native American names. The river became the Rappahannock, which meant "rise and fall" of water, and the village became Tappahannock, which means "town on the rise and fall of water". In the mid 1600's, a trading post was established by Jacob Hobbs. For a few years the area was known as Hobb's His Hole and later as New Plymouth. Eventually, the original name was returned in 1705. On and around the water still remain thirteen homes and buildings from these early days of Tappahannock, including 3 of the school buildings.

(at 10pm) The news just reported that a river cutter crewman found a "thin" wire (not a cable) attached to the side of the bridge, the thin wire was attached to the top of the bridge and it went all the way down into the water along side a docked barge. They stop the traffic on the bridge until they were able to find out what was on the other end of the thin wire that went under water at the side of the barge. Nothing was found, it was simply just a long thin wire attached to the side of the bridge that went all the way down and under the water in the river. (This had to be a very long wire as it is long way down to the water, from the top of the bridge)

I am glad it turned out to be nothing and it just goes to show that people are looking out for unusual activity and for things that are out of place. It is odd that anyone would have had the chance to be walking on the bridge, much less being able to hang out on the bridge, attaching a long wire to it and releasing it into the water. Anyone that would do such a thing would be at a high risk of being hit by a car accidently, as this is a busy bridge with no or very little space on the side it for stalled cars, much less room for even someone to be walking on it. It is a race track through there with cars jumping over lanes suddenly and often due to all the other highways that branch off of it.

A relief Bump!

There was an explosion, described to me as what sounded like a car bomb. It took place right after the plane went into the Pentagon. Someone who lives there told me about it. There was also an explosion near the Supreme Court building I'm told.

I remember this very well. There was a news report about the fire/whatever but then in the crush of things, I never heard anymore about it. I can still in my mind see the ticker on Foxnews about this. But it just disappeared soon after.

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "SALEM, OREGON - Authorities were searching Wednesday for a truck stolen in southern Oregon that was loaded with 1,700 gallons of a chemical often used by methamphetamine "cooks" to make the illegal drug. Klamath County Sheriff Tim Evinger said the flatbed truck with two 1,000-pound tanks was reported stolen Tuesday from Basin Fertilizer & Chemical Co. in Merrill.

The truck was loaded with anhydrous ammonia, a chemical that is used for fertilizing and refrigeration, but also can be used for making methamphetamine, Evinger said."
