Al Qaeda again threatens New York, Washington and Los Angeles - Daily Terror Threat

A new message was posted in the last few hours by the Jeddah-based al-Qaeda-linked Al-Islah (Reform) society calling on Muslims to flee New York, Washington and Los Angeles in advance of major al Qaeda attacks in those cities. This is revealed by DEBKAfile.

The message accuses the United States of predetermining its end (doom) by its policies. ?The Jews rule the Pentagon by remote control and (are the cause) of Muslims being killed in every corner of the world. The United States should therefore expect more blows.?

The message is signed on behalf of the al Bayan (The Threat) movement by ?your warrior brother, Abul Hassan al Khadrami?.

Our Muslim expert identifies the name of the signatory as belonging to a Yemeni from Hadhrameuth, the Bin Ladens? place of origin where Osama enjoys substantial tribal support.

DEBKAfile?s counter-terror sources stress that warnings appearing on these forums are taken both very seriously and with caution by the intelligence services keeping track of the terrorist network?s electronic traffic.

Last November, Jeddah-based fundamentalist forums addressed a message to an Al Qaeda member, saying whoever understands ? understands; whoever knows, knows, but we are marching towards an operation that will take us to Paradise. Three days later, the Mombasa Paradise hotel was blown up killing 12 Kenyans and 3 Israelis and a failed shoulder-launched Strela anti-air missile missed an Israeli airliner at Mombasa airport.

very eye opening article about the vulnerability of nuclear reactors. they mention that even though the reactor core may withstand a hit by an airplane, if control facilities are damaged a meltdown could ensue. and the holding ponds with spent rods would make quite a "dirty bomb"

Why Yonkers, I wonder.

Here are some stats on the city:

Yonkers, just north of New York City in Westchester County, is the fourth largest city in the U.S. state of New York, with a population of approximately 196,086 (according to the 2000 census).

The city is located on the eastern bank of the Hudson River. Its best-known attraction is Yonkers Raceway, a harness racing track. There is also a large shopping area along Central Park Avenue (New York Route 100), which attracts many shoppers from the surrounding areas, including New York City.

The city is spread out over many hills rising from sea-level at the Hudson to as high as 415 feet at Sacred Heart Church (the spire of which can be viewed from as far away as Long Island, New York City, and New Jersey). The landscape of the city has been compared to that of San Francisco and Rome.

I was born in Yonkers. It is the fourth largest city in New York behind NYC, Buffalo, and Rochester,and is often referred to the sixth Borough given it proximity to NYC. I hope I don't offend anyone (including some of my relatives who still live there), but I can't think of anything cultural or strategic in Yonkers worthy of attack, and indeed, mass destruction might double as urban renewal (I don't really mean that).

LOL. I understand. :) However, they say various criteria is used to determine those cities more attractive to a terrorist attack. In addition to cultural centers, landmarks, power plants, hydroelectric stuff, dams, etc., is population density. Hum, interesting, isn't it?

It seems to me, based on their past attempts, their interest is primarily in NYC, DC, Vegas, Seattle and LA. Sound about right to you?

I just figured out why Yonkers is probably on the list: The NYC water supply system is a labyrinth of aquaducts and resevoirs, the last of which is the "Grassy Sprain Resevoir" (or something like that)in Yonkers.

Right. Also, the city runs along a several mile stretch of the Hudson River. I would say strategically, it's geographic elevation might make it a point of interest to those with bad intentions.

Hey Sean. Can you point me in the direction (with a link or a comment) of the best analysis explaining why al qaeda would wait to set off any WMD whether it be chemo or bio or a nuke or dirty bomb if they had such weaponry at the ready prior to 911? If they needed to perfect the weapons, then that makes sense to me. But some folks are speculating that, for example, some nukes have already been prepositioned here within the U.S. before 911. Or that al qaeda is behind the anthrax attacks. I wanted your take on this if you can.
