That satellite picture on the Drudge Report of the fires burning is sure dramatic.

I haven't been to the Drudge report, but I think I know what satellite photo you're talking about. There is one on the front page of today's paper, showing the smoke columns. I'll check Drudge, and see if that's the same one.

Yep. Same photo. You can actually see the flames at the base of the smoke columns. I wonder how high the flames are?

About 15 years ago, I was riding in a twin engine Cessna from Utah to Idaho when there were some huge fires in Idaho. I could see the smoke columns - they were going higher than the tops of the thunderclouds, probably about 35 - 40,000 feet, and absolutely huge. The convenction storms on the ground must have been massive.

Who said anything about nude skydiving? :)
No, it wasn't. I know I haven't been posting lately - busy with house stuff, and my computer is on the fritz, and I haven't gotten it fixed yet. I'm using someone else's computer at the moment to check my email and er, freep.

I wish I could find better maps with the fires showing.. I'd be interested to see how close they are to our old house.

Oh Westy, that sunset picture looks like our California fires right now..

Now for the Itty Bitty Kitty Update:

Taco went in for his cancer check up today. He has the sniffles since he seems to have seasonal allergies. He had an Xray of this chest to make sure he is clear and he is...and he is one pound heavier too. He is doing nicely.

Little Missie kitty is hanging tough. She was nearly mauled to death and survived..she is a little toughie. The pathologist and the oncologist have reconsided the diagnosis. At first they said it was injection site fibrosarcoma. But my vets went back and said..she never got shots in her neck and she is hyperthyroid so they checked again. They still say it is a neoplasia but the question is where exactly is it. The neck is a delicate area and they are thinking it has to do with the thyroid which is not uncommon with thyroid problems and I guess the meds. The oncologist recommended some sort of special Xray and for this I would have to go to LA. So the vets are consulting with this feller to find out if that is a reasonable test in that area...then the thought is for debulking meaning taking as much of the tumor out as possible if not all of it. One risk of kitty on Methimizole is that it can cause bleeding..kind of a lot but when the biopsy was done there wasn't much so it was a warning of a possible event. ( Which I don't know if it was a way of saying she could bleed to death or what). So when they find out what the specialist thinks then we will see about this.

Missie is doing well..today her daddy left the door open and guess who walked out...and I found her when I got home from an errand! She was having the time of her life but she is deaf so this is not a good thing.....her daddy thought it was funny I did not! But apart from her great adventure, she is eating well and getting about the house and being her sweet self and socializes so I am hoping for the best. There are all sorts of prayers going up for her and I think she will be ok in the long term..

We are ok up here, Gran and thanks for asking. There is a fire in North San Luis Obispo County and we can see the smoke but we are ok.

The fires in socal are awful..there are 14 deaths now. One of the fires was started by some dolt of a hunter who set a fire so his buddy could locate him..doh! What I kind of wonder about is something I heard or thought I heard on the news tonight which was something to the effect that there are other fires that were arson..I am not sure if the meaning was that these other fires are arson too..
