Fox News reported on April 6th, citing CENTCOM sources, that US B-2 Spirit stealth bombers struck and obliterated an underground IRGC headquarters near Tehran using Massive Ordnance Penetrators during the same operational window in which SEAL Team 6 was extracting the downed F-15E weapons systems officer from the Zagros Mountains. The 30,000-pound bunker busters, the largest conventional weapons in the American arsenal, were dropped on a buried command node while hundreds of special operations troops were simultaneously fighting their way out of Iran with a wounded colonel. The rescue and the decapitation strike ran concurrently. The operators saving one American life and the bombers destroying an enemy headquarters were executing under the same CENTCOM directive, issued by Admiral Brad Cooper, during the same 48-hour window.

Good job. Don’t need to see any more and tie up time.
A-10s! Woohoo!
I’m curious as to why a full Colonel was riding in the back seat as the Weapons Officer?
I wish these idiotic reporters would shut their mouths. Most of them repeat stuff we already know. Who knows who feeding these word-sucking big mouths information?
There ought to be a tally sheet. Comparing what they said to what turned out to be verified as true
Anyone less than 99.5% correct over a 4 month period is never clicked on again. Or dumped from the major feeds. The failures need to be publicized.
Spit...and IMHO
That’s a great question. I’m sure there is a good answer, but in the Navy, an 06 is a Captain and Captains command aircraft carriers. Shouldn’t junior officers be performing the WSO job?
Probably leading by example.
He didn’t call dibs quick enough.
Roles are specialized. Pilots and WSOs are not interchangeable.
Good point. At most that is a job for an O-3.
Leading by example would have put him in the front seat. I could understand that better.
I didn’t see a video at the bottom. Please link to it.
“Iām curious as to why a full Colonel was riding in the back seat as the Weapons Officer?”
Usually it’s because you receive orders.
I went back to the site and has changed since I first posted. The video was of a B2 doing a fly by of a carrier. I can’t locate that video either.
That’s a reasonable possibility. With the number of missions being flown, every WSO might be called to fly a mission regardless of rank.
Getting his flight time in. Maybe he is the CO of the squadron, it is apparent he leads from the front.
Who is going to order a full Colonel to go on this type of mission? That does not happen. He might have been offered the opportunity to go but certainly not ordered.
Obviously on the ATO/flight schedule, both orders.
Colonels are Wing Commanders in the Air Force. Some distant General is their boss. These Colonels have a staff that writes the flight plans and would not write them to order the boss to do anything unless he knew ahead of time and agreed.
