After decades of neglect left its stockpiles “far too shallow,” the United States is undertaking a massive revitalization of its munitions industrial base. Spurred by the demands of supporting allies like Ukraine and Israel, Congress is pouring billions into the effort.

No one is making artillery shells and drones in the numbers needed to match and beat what aIran, the Norks, and Russia are hammering the Ukes with. And I doubt the ramping up actually being done will help while there are still some Ukes to use them.

It sounds like you have the latest numbers on war usage by both sides and production of them by those supporting Ukraine, what are the numbers?

Yes, they just repurposed the factories. I know we don’t have as big of a patriotic society anymore but I’m sure we can get it done if need be.

I think around 50% of Americans would still stand with us if you and I were compelled to wage war for our Nation. Our Nation's problem is that we dismantled our factories. That is a very steep climb to get back where we could produce like we once did. The terrible thing with that lapse in manufacturing is that the expertise has been lost to produce the machines and use them in production. There is a significant boost given the use of CNC machinery; but, those don't bring back the big mills.

Our personal problem is that we are old farts.

Nowhere near how many there used to be. Worse than that, there are almost none alive that would know how to man them, or even be disposed to man them.

Ok maybe. But our population then was 132 million. Now over 320 million. I would assume there are still quite a lot of factories still around. Just not massive ones like back then. I believe American’s could still get it done.

Q: What proportion and amount of American arms acquired by Israel are purchased for cash versus some kind of free grant?

Grok Summary:

Summary
• Grants: Approximately $3.8 billion annually (FMF) plus supplemental aid (e.g., $17.9 billion since October 2023), covering 20-30% of U.S.-sourced arms, primarily for F-35s, Iron Dome, and munitions.
• Cash Purchases: Likely 70-80% of U.S.-sourced arms, funded by Israel’s defense budget, including major deals like $20 billion (F-15 jets) and $8 billion (missiles, bombs). Total FMS cases are valued at $39.2 billion, with deliveries often years out.

So a 20-30% minority of arms transfers are paid for by us, and the other 70-80% are paid for in cash.

Hardly “all”.

That will take years to do, that is even they can do it. Meanwhile our Defense contractors depend on China for Rare Earth Minerals to build weapons, etc.. Now how messed up is that/

That can’t happen, we don’t have the industrial base to do that or the people to make the stuff.
