"The White House is trying to make gas cans fill great again.
In a July 24 letter, the EPA has asked gas can manufacturers to redesign their much-maligned products to fix a long-standing problem: "People hate 'em," said Florida-based eBay gas can reseller Steven Watt, 63. "It's all about the spout."

Hear... hear... and real 100% gasoline, get rid of ethanol. Furthermore, let’s go back to R-12 refrigerant.... the best and safest refrigerant ever made.
R-12 YES PLEASE!
R-12 can keep a house a 68 degrees even on a 100-degree day whereas the new refrigerants struggle to keep the house at 75 even in the high 90’s outside.
excellent, the micromanaging is ridiculous
The new design was to limit gas vapor from escaping. But since they are not vented, they spill more gas than would escape as vapor.
1. They are air-tight, the plastic can deforms with temperature changes and can split, causing all the gas to leak out. I replaced my last one after two years because it was split partially and looked likely to fail soon.
2. The can builds up pressure in warm/hot weather that is hard to release without gas and fumes spewing out too fast from pressure inside.
yep, not air vent. The old ones had that with a removable “snap” to cover/uncover
a relief plug....who knew. Anyone with half a brain....
Trying to use a new gas can a few years ago and all I could get through the spout was a trickle. I had tp use bpth hands somehw holding to manipulate the spout. I took the spout off and got my funnel. Other folks I know have done the same. Just what was it the trick spouts were supposed to accomplish?
It's primarily for forestry, road, drainage maintenance, and weed management on our property. For that, torque matters. Weight doesn't. Simple is better. It has disc brakes, a 383, dual batteries, and will have a point ignition. It will very rarely go on public roads.
It has PTO winch and dump, full length racks, electric crane, underbody boxes, inverter for power tools, lights for night work, vise for saws, cube tote and pump for firefighting... The trailer hookup is for three or four wire lighting systems.
That's not backward, it's forward. I'm simply rejecting the frills and BS. Besides, it'll be a badass looking truck. This being California, I want a gun rack in it too. :-)
I’d be okay with rolling back our technology to 1968 across the board.
Go get the best and cheapest adaptation kit. It is called a funnel.

Frustrate gas-guzzling car owners enough to make them switch to walking, biking, taking the bus or buying an electric vehicle? If I were to guess... it could be just another “nudge” factor that the left always creates to manipulate the public. Yeah, I’m a conspiracy theory wacko. But at least I know it!
ROFL Last week I doused my tennis shoes, pants and socks while gassing up the mower. I tried to wash them. That was dumb. Finally laid them in the sun and rain for a day or two. Then rewashed. I had filled the can too much. (Female mowing lawn while husband is ill)

Airtight, no gas fumes released. Except they build up pressure and then cause worse releases than the old cans.
how is more spillage good for anyone?
Next door friend has a turbodiesel Mopar straight 6, (’73-ish?) with flatbed that declines and a crane, which is awesome. Great applications for field work.
I bought all my recent gas cans in Canada.
Work great.
All of mine have aftermarket “water” spouts.
This is great news I’ve waited for.
The funnel thing…
The fumes are actually a serious problem. If you have a lot of exposure it’s a leukemia risk.
