He referred to a “district of Syria, called Palaistínē” which included the territory previously held by the Philistines. The region or areas controlled by the Various Empires (Syrian, Byzantine, Islamic) were called regions or areas under their control. The British adopted the name before they conquered in the area because Bibles that were printed in the British Empire had maps that referred to the conquered region. Not everyone celebrate Easter, and Exiguus’ reckoning was to consolidate the Julian and Gregorian Calendars, which constantly have to be adjusted (if you are Catholic you know) because it is a Solar Calendar and not a Lunar Calendar. Archaeologists refer to the BCE and CE to accomodate Calendars from the Christian Calendars with other Calendars. Having been involved in several Excavations in diverse places, including Israel, it is the only thing that works in diverse groups.
