Justice Department Says Former Officer Convicted Over Breonna Taylor’s Death During Raid Should Serve Just One Day in Jail

Former Louisville Metro Police Department Detective Brett Hankison is scheduled to be sentenced on Monday afternoon after being convicted of deprivation of rights under color of law in November.

Taylor was killed during a knock-and-announce drug raid on March 13, 2020, during which her boyfriend shot at police and they returned fire. LMPD Sgt. Jon Mattingly was shot during the exchange and has now recovered.

During the raid, Hankison fired ten shots through a window, though they are not the ones that struck Taylor. The officers who shot Taylor were not charged because they were returning fire as her boyfriend shot at them.

The Justice Department has argued that Hankison does not need to serve time as he is not a danger to the public.

Taylor’s family has urged the judge to ignore the recommendation and impose a harsher sentence. Lawyers representing the family called it an “insult” that sets a “dangerous precedent.”

Hi Tim, still enchanting?

Glad I saw your reply.

I happened to catch a portion of the Not The Rush Limbaugh Anymore Show today, and a cop who was on scene that night was on the line.

He explained a a good deal more about that night’s events than had been previously told - or at least that I had heard in these few years since. QUITE eye opening, providing he did speak the truth. Certainly a much different story than anything available to date.

And as much as the young woman did not deserve to die that night she was not exactly a model citizen, and not an EMT. Another cautionary tale for women to hear and then hopefully make better choices about men.

I was wrong and I don’t mind admitting it.

I am now rooting for President Trump to give a full and unconditional commutation and pardon to the accused / charged cop.

There was a ton on fake information put out by many. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard news people saying they executed a “no knock” warrant. It was that kind of warrant, but they didn’t do that.

And Ms Taylor was definitely not a purely innocent victim worthy of the $12M the city gave to her family. The entire thing was a cluster that didn’t have to happen the way it did. They could easily have apprehended him in the daytime, away from the public.

Glad to hear you’ve reconsidered. That’s a rare talent on FR!

Now…. About that rodent: it’s no ordinary rabbit! It has teeth, sharp! And it can leap about ! 😱

Update Ping.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — A federal judge on Monday sentenced an ex-Kentucky police officer to nearly three years in prison for using excessive force during the 2020 deadly Breonna Taylor raid, declining a Justice Department recommendation that he be given no prison time.
