How can that be? My wife had a string of WINS at the Casino today, July 12, 2025, yet we ended up still LOSING to the tune of about $30 to $40. How? Because of horribly LOUSY payouts. In fact our best slots payout today was about what our WORST payout was in June when she also had a string of WINS but WINS with normal to good payouts. We will be taking a break from the casino until early August because it seems that Lady Luck would only joke around with us again if we went back before then.
So am I a whiner to COMPLAIN about winning (yet losing) but with what I consider to be lousy payouts? Or should I man up and be thankful that our net loss was minimal? Well, overall we did have a fun time at the Casino for the nearly four hours we were there this morning so perhaps I am in no position to complain.

Thank you very much and God bless you.
I swear this is the third time today I’ve seen this article today.
WTF?
Don’t you realize the slots are designed to keep you at the casino losing? No matter how much you think you’re winning, you WILL end up losing. They’re not a billion dollar industry for nothing.
You’re a lot smarter than this aren’t you?
btt!
I used to have poker machines here in NC. They were set to pay out 85%. This meant that most lost but the occasional person would hit big. That person would ALWAYS put back every penny in winnings continuing to play. It might take a couple of weeks but it would happen. You can program the machines to pay out but you cannot program the gambler to quit ahead.
If the payout percentage is legally preset, then that means if the jackpot is less, the odds of winning would be higher.
Winning more often means more dopamine, and more staying at the machine.

Albert Brooks casino scene from “Lost in America”. Don’t let this happen to her.
Actually that's what we do is money management. My wife used to hate it when I said we had to leave while ahead. Once I even lifted her up and carried her out of the casino against her protests but now she sees that quitting while ahead is the best policy.
My method is to use frequent cashouts. When we are ahead by about double what was initially put into the machine I cash out the voucher and then put the original amount back in. If it continues paying out then wash, rinse, repeat. If not, then we leave the machine and go to another and start over. Basically I put $20 into each machine from a $100 budget. When it hits $60, it is cashout time. $40 for us and $20 back into the machine. Worst that can happen is that the entire $100 is lost but that hasn't happened yet.
Yesterday should have had a lot of cashouts due to my wife hitting the free games and free spins but as you saw the cashouts were incredibly low so it threw my system out of whack and we netted about a $40 loss. And YET we had a lot of fun for the nearly 4 hours at the Casino. Yes, my goal is to WIN but ALSO to extend our casino stay as long as possible on our budget. In June we had an almost $500 net win and it also lasted about 4 hours. Hardest part came when it came time to LEAVE while way ahead. However, even my wife now sees the wisdom in that.
When I was about ten, Maryland still had slot machines in restaurants. My family was visiting and I wanted to play. Dad thought this would be a a good time for a lesson.
Getting two dollars in nickels, we hit the slots. After about ten minutes, we were up by over three dollars!
“Hey Dad, lets quit now while we’re ahead”, I said. My Dad replied that a gambler never quits.
It took us almost 45 minutes to give it all back to the house.
It's Deja Vu all over again.
I keep tripping onto these tales of old people spending their days at casinos. God shoot me, please, if that’s what I call entertainment one day.
Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but “Lady Luck” does not exist. You can thank the random number generator in the slot machine for what ever wins you get, but over time you are going to lose money playing those machines. That is a mathematical certainty. They are nothing but computers with pretty lights designed to take your money.
"Ward, you're pissing me off. Now you're insulting my intelligence. What do you think I am? A _____ idiot? You know ______ well that someone had to get into those machines and set those _______ reels. The probability of one four-reel machine is a million and a half to one; the probability of three machines in a row; it's in the billions! It cannot happen, would not happen, you ______ momo! What's the matter with you? Didn't you see you were being set up on the second win?"
A question from a non-gambler (except occasional lottery tickets): Does the payout depend on the volume of bets placed? Fewer bets, lower payout?
Payout not dependent on the number of bets you make. It depends on HOW MUCH the bets are. $5 bets should have payouts of 10 times the payouts of 50 cent bets.
Its fun for about an hour then I get bored. I like to play poker. To each his own.
Yeah always pay the guy behind the ceiling camers that holds the win buttons.
Try looking at the rules screen on the slot machine. If it’s pages and pages long, it’s most likely gonna take your money much quicker than the simpler games which are less volatile and allow you to keep your money longer. Remember, the longer you keep your money, the more chances you have to hit a jackpot. Stay away from the more complicated “volatile” machines — the ones that advertise “free games” and look more like video games — until you’ve built up your bankroll and can afford to lose a little.
The moment you walk into a casino facial recognition kicks in. Your entire history is there, games you’ve played, money spent, etc. If you’ve been caught counting cards you’re marked and trespassed from every casino with the facial recognition system, nation wide. Practically everything you do is on camera and recorded. Every employee is under the same, especially dealers and cash cage. I worked casino surveillance for a while and was shocked by the level of technology and lack of privacy. The level of detail is very fine. I realized this is the future of everyone under the UN and AI.
