James Gunn has no time for moviegoers would take offense to him embracing the political themes in Superman's story for his upcoming film heading to theaters next week.
The David Corenswet-led flick encompasses the DC comic's origins — akin to "the story of America" — and at a basic level, is about a man searching for a better life after leaving his original home (planet), the 58-year-old director and co-head of DC Studios said in a new interview with The Times.
"I mean, Superman is the story of America," Gunn told the publication. "An immigrant that came from other places and populated the country, but for me it is mostly a story that says basic human kindness is a value and is something we have lost."
It isn't as if the idea of Clark Kent/Superman being political is a novel concept; the superhero was created by sons of Jewish immigrants, Joe Shuster and Jerry Siegel. And any comic book reader worth their salt can understand that the Krypton-born alien's origins mean he's a refugee sent to Earth by parents wanting him to live a better life than he would have on an imploding planet.
And if they see reason to protest that fact, they can take it up with DC Comics, which used the hero's visage to back World Refugee Day in 2018.

Haven’t we already had quite enough ‘Superman’ movies anyway?
Well James look what happened to snow white and the dumb ass actress Rachel Zegler that played her.
Prediction: MASSIVE LOSS on this BS film.
Good. Let the Left flush their $$$ down the toilet.
Preachy, arrogant, hateful, anti-American, self-righteous woke bassturds.
***SPITS***
Truth, Justice and the American Way
Lies, Just Us And the Swamp Way has consequences, Hollyweird..
Yeah, enough super heroes already. Batman vs Superman? What happened to Batman vs Godzilla?
Gonna be difficult topping Man of Steel and what’s up with the goofy looking S.
I would stand in a long line to NOT see the James Gunn film.
Being an Illegal is one thing. Technically he is. What would be unforgivable, would be unforgivable is de- Americanizing him. Superman is who he is because of the American values that raised hom.
Deadpool was right when he said the (Henry) Cavillrine would be treated “so much better” in the MCU “than those (people) down the street”.
And remember Seth Rogen’s Christmas stinker?
And there was this pillow biter who was very angry with America for not going to see his sodomistic movie about ... yeah. Homos. (Bros?)
They serve up these heaping platters of steaming bovine squeezing, then become angry when America passes.
This guy knows his movie is DOA.
Well, since Krypton’s gravity is supposed to be way higher than Earth’s, maybe they would laugh at such rather pernicious humans being crushed by it.
lol...he’s a real marketing genius /s
Where does this guy live? I have been in places where I was positive that I was the only person who was born in the United States and spoke English as a native language, or at all. When I was a kid, the “jobs Americans won’t do” were being done by
...Americans. When I was in college fifty years ago, the only Muslims I knew were of the Nation of Islam variety on the streets of East St. Louis. Now a part of Chicago’s southwest suburbs is known as Little Palestine. I was first in Chicago in the early eighties and then left for a few years. When I got back, I was shocked to see how an area around Lawrence Avenue had changed from being a typical and unremarkable Chicago neighborhood to being a slice of Korea.
If the United States is not welcoming to immigrants, who are all of these people?
To warp this fictional story into their socialist bs dogma...
You know, these superheroes were started as propaganda pieces to fight against Hitler, the Nazis, and the Japs, and later, to defend against communists.
Now the socialists here forget all that and equate them to illegal immigrants. This is the warped distorted thinking of the liberal socialist mind.
“basic human kindness is a value and is something we have lost.”
Where he says “we”, he’s really saying “you”. That’s the problem. Self-righteous scolding is not entertainment.
**I’ve never known a Superman movie to lose money before.**
And it’s such an original story....
He’s not of this world...
He is raised to adulthood on Earth...
He is not recognized for who he really is...
He has supernatural powers...
He can be as good as dead, yet come back stronger...
He can save multitudes from an evil entity...
Since Superman can do the work of a million regular humans why would a billionaire like Lex hate him? He would give him a job and fire all the regular Americans working at Lex Corps
They love to attack the customer
Gives me a chance to bring something up about Gunn which no one has pursued lately because he’s such a big deal.
I generally like his movies.
Definitely liked the first two Guardian movies.
He got fired before the third movie because years before he and others had traded absolutely disgusting pedophile themes. Supposedly it was funny and edgy to trade dirty memes about sex with little kids.
He got hired back because everyone involved with the movie threw a fit.
Then he makes Guardians 3. A big hit I didn’t like it.
In the movie, he has a completely gratuitous subplot thrown in that the heroes free a prison full of blue eyed blonde little kids who look like they’re in their pajamas.
I felt he absolutely put all those little kids in as an FU to the pedophile charges.
He should have been called out on it but he was too big a deal at that point and in charge of DC.
Plus the movie was a terrible disappointment after two masterpieces.
If the Superman movie has liberal and anti American themes, then I hope it bombs.
Initially it’s going to be a huge hit.
