The biggest fear was that AI would steal our jobs. In reality, it’s replacing those of people who are learning how to work.

As thousands of young graduates prepare to take their first steps on the job market, an unexpected obstacle stands in their way: artificial intelligence. The technological promise that was supposed to relieve us of repetitive tasks seems, paradoxically, to be blocking the access of new generations to the professional world.

The broken path to employment Traditionally, young people start their careers with internships, junior positions or simple assignments that allow them to learn and work their way up. But as Aneesh Raman, Head of Business Opportunities at LinkedIn, explains, “the first rung of the career ladder is disappearing”. The reason for this? It is precisely these introductory tasks – administrative, repetitive, often unskilled – that companies are now entrusting to generative AI.

Tech giants such as Amazon, Google and Microsoft are already automating tasks previously carried out by young employees: writing bits of code, data entry, administrative assistance… The result? A drop in “on-the-job” learning opportunities.

According to the New York Federal Reserve, the unemployment rate for young graduates in the United States is 5.8%, compared with 6.2% for younger workers. This rise is partly linked to the rapid automation of entry-level tasks. Companies such as Duolingo and Shopify are already actively reducing the recruitment of juniors for these roles, preferring to entrust them to AI systems.

A bleak future for young people? Chris Hyams, CEO of Indeed, points out that “in around two-thirds of professions, more than half of the skills required can be performed satisfactorily, or even excellently, by current AI”. While AI does not completely replace jobs, it does make many stages of the traditional training pathway obsolete.

The paradox is striking: companies are warning of a shortage of skilled labour… but no longer offer the conditions to train this talent. In Europe, this tension is all the more marked because companies are struggling to recruit experienced technical profiles, while young people can no longer access the positions that would allow them to become such.

If the trend continues, AI will not eliminate millions of jobs in one fell swoop: it will simply prevent future professionals from emerging. And in the long term, there is a great risk that we will end up with powerful tools, but without enough qualified human resources to supervise and develop them. But for this to be of benefit to everyone, we need to rethink professional integration and guarantee a space for human learning where machines are gaining ground.

“Yet. With the rollout of Tesla’s Optimus robot sometime in 2027/2028, that will change. Simple manual tasks will also become increasingly automated.”

Are you willing to “do your civil duty” for the Mega Tech Corporations and adopt those families who no longer have work because of it? Or do we even care?

You would think that extreme automation would lead to extreme price deflation. It won’t.

Please explain. There may be some here not too dense.

Let me share something... I have had several people here hit me by PM and tell me how much they hate you. Know what I did? I told them that concerning some topics you are absolutely brilliant and that I absolutely respect that. But when you decide to get stupid there just isn’t any fixing it until you sober up...

Then they will ask out of sincere curiosity. This I respect, stupid games I do not.

You could have asked the same question over 100 years ago about people who were going to lose their jobs manufacturing horse carriages and buggy whips. People will have to adapt - there's no choice. It will be painful, but it's inevitable.

Will it replace some jobs? probably but not tomorrow or next year

There used to be thousands and thousands of stenographers and telephone operators and personal secretaries, too. Most of those are gone, and yet there is still work to be done.

Been living in their heads rent free for a decade.

“Know what I did? I told them that concerning some topics you are absolutely brilliant and that I absolutely respect that.”

Thank you.

” But when you decide to get stupid there just isn’t any fixing it until you sober up...”

I just asked you a simple question so we could discuss the danger you allege.

AI can’t repair cars, can’t do even simple change of oil job. AI can’t sell your house or car. AI can’t repair simple leaky faucet in kitchen.

AI can only replace some college graduates. But we will still need auto mechanics, plumbers, carpenters, roofers, electricians, FedEx drivers, cops, firemen, nurses, pharmacists and engineers.

That is an absolute myth propagated by the very Corporations who plan to enslave us all with technology. But there IS a choice. And right now the timing is right to opt out. Become proactive and just say no. Just make it very clear that you will not accept it in any of your personal dealings period.

Cut them off, shut down your account and go elsewhere. And make it clearly known why. Bud light them in mass. Because if we don’t, AI will be ruling every little aspect of our lives while the Corporations profit and gain even more power over humanity.

They are out to literally enslave us with this technology. It is right in front of our faces. All we have to do is decide which is more important as a priority... Humanity, or profits for these Corporations?

This has now gone beyond just “Business”. This is now to the point of the philosophical and spiritual welfare of humanity period.

Except I know you and that is NOT why you asked... Again I have already explained it and proved it to you endlessly over and over... Go search the archives instead of playing games.

There are already robot chefs working in some restaraunts.

The first stage of AI was LLMs, the next stage will be agentic AI that will be AI that can execute tasks autonomously.

The stage after that, which will come sooner than you think, will be embodied AI that can do manual tasks and replace manual workers as well.

Over the next 10-15 years its likely that humans will be largely useless as employees and there will have to be a paradigm shift in how the economy works because the old system of people working to earn wages and then spend that on other goods and services is going to be utterly redundant in the years to come.

We can only hope that those in charge are able, and willing, to make the radical changes necessary to stop everyone but the elites from having everything and everyone else having nothing.

1) I believe a lot of Conservatives (at least, here on Free Republic) are Baby Boomers who survived the tough jimmy Carter years and who think young people today are lazy and just need to suck it up and rise to success, just like previous generations.

2) I believe that the situation today is totally different. Young people are just screwed. There is no American Dream for most of them. There is no rising up. Everything is stacked against them, And they know it.
