Washington Post Whines: ‘Not Many Restaurants Left in D.C.’ if ICE Enforces U.S. Laws
Breitbart ^ | 05/16/2025 | Neil Munro

Jeff Bezos’ Washington Post is commiserating with wealthy restaurant owners who are trying to shield their lower-wage, illegal migrant workers from President Donald Trump’s crackdown on legal migration.

“Owners or operators of four restaurants confirmed to the Washington Post that they had lost employees, whether permanently or temporarily, since DHS agents visited last week,” the newspaper reported.

“If they want to go by the [law] book, there is not many restaurants left in D.C.,” said Luis Reyes, a former illegal migrant from El Salvador who is now the co-owner of a restaurant visited by ICE. He added:

Who will wash dishes? Nobody wants to do that. Only the hard workers, the people who come from Honduras and El Salvador, they happily do that … They want to make money and send [it] to their family.

“Why is DHS focusing on D.C. restaurants?” complained Geoff Tracy, a restaurateur for 25 years.

Most of the article focused on the owners’ opposition to any loss of migrant workers. For example, the article quotes one executive’s letter to the Department of Homeland Security after ICE inspected workers’ records in restaurants:

My hope is to avoid the unnecessary fear-mongering that took place this morning … Our employees have rights, they have been notified of these rights and any further questions or needs should be addressed directly to me.

I have not been to DC in at least a decade and I have no plants to go there ever.
So, I do not care if there are any restaurants in DC!
But I care, that the laws are enforced everywhere!
Deep state shall not be exempt from the laws of the land!

How to say, “I’m happy exploiting people” without saying “I’m happy exploiting people”.

Not if they are illegals, toots.

Are employers breaking the law by hiring illegals?

When the illegal invasion problem surfaced a decade or so back, my understanding it was.

I always thought it was.

I know when you file your tax form at least the long form, there is a question about employing domestic help.

I always wondered how rich folk who employed illegals as domestics answered that question.

Were they following the law or paying them “off the books”.

I know there is always the question about arresting Johns for prostitution which I have no problem with.

Got a kick when Trump’s buddy Robert Kraft got busted.

But employing one prostitute in an illegal act is different than employing dozens of illegal invaders.

I would like to see employers held responsible for employing illegal invaders.

It costs taxpayers a bundle for employers to hire illegals.

Illegals have kids who go to taxpayer funded schools.

Illegals use health care which is taxpayer paid not paid by the employers.

Bottom line is illegal invaders tap into all the taxpayer paid services that that taxpayers do.

The employee gets taxpayer paid benefits which legal citizens have paid by their employers.

Those who employ illegals should not be given a pass.

Glad to live in flyover country. Those in D.C. seem to have created their own problems, like making it so only the comparatively wealthy can afford to live there.
