Pete Rose Hall Of Fame Induction Ceremony To Be Sponsored By DraftKings

COOPERSTOWN, NY — Despite not yet being officially elected to the prestigious and exclusive group, one late baseball player already landed a lucrative sponsorship, as it was announced that Pete Rose's Hall of Fame induction ceremony would be brought to you by DraftKings.

The long-awaited election of Major League Baseball's all-time hit leader to the Hall of Fame had not even taken place when the online sports betting website snapped up the rights to promote the event.

"It's our honor to sponsor such a special occasion," said DraftKings CEO and co-founder Jason Robins. "We're currently taking bets on how many minutes the induction speech someone will give on Pete's behalf will run. Head to DraftKings now to get in on the action!"

Despite keeping Rose on the "permanently ineligible" list for Hall of Fame consideration until his death, Major League Baseball agreed to allow the sponsorship. "It just fits the occasion too perfectly," said MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred. "This allows Pete Rose to finally be enshrined in the Hall of Fame while depriving him of enjoying the experience, and benefits Major League Baseball financially. It's a win-win."

At publishing time, reports circulated that Pete Rose's family had made a small fortune by winning a bet that the ban on his election to the Hall of Fame would be lifted.

Heck — I think it’s only a matter of time before most major North American sports leagues are rocked by gambling scandals anyway.

It's too obvious that the games are influenced by gambling. You can notice the "funny behavior" by the players and the officials.

Especially because he only bet on his own team to win.

1. This doesn’t help his cause at all, when you think about it.

2. I have no confidence that your statement is true.

3. Perhaps even more damning than the gambling itself was Rose’s admission that he used information from other managers about player injuries and lineup decisions before placing his bets on other teams. He was basically rigging odds in his favor.

I’ve also seen the point made that a manager with monetary skin in a particular game might burn through a higher chunk of his bull pen than is optimal for future games.

But if Francis can be Pope and Paul VI canonized, why not let Rose into the HOF?

(FWIW—this was a very good one by the Bee)

Pitcher Curt Schilling (”bloody sock”) belongs in the Baseball Hall of Fame!

What’s the over/under from Vegas on Pete Rose getting in on the first vote?

More likely by referees.

Back before he was disgraced, Cincinnati had a street near the Reds’ stadium called Pete Rose Way. Is it still called that?

The procedure for Pete to be elected will take years and won’t be easy thanks to the lords of baseball. The HOF is a farce.

I know it’s a joke but….. with all the gambling officially associated with professional sports today, and all officially sanctioned, what Pete Rose did seems trivial.

Karras bet on the 1962 NFL championship game...a game he was not in. Rose is deplorable. His actions wrecked games and careers.

I was a huge Rose fan growing up in Ohio.

I agree, even betting on your team to win is not a strike in favor.

If that's ALL Rose did, maybe.

But he was in DEEP to mobsters in Ohio and in NY.

I find it hard to believe he didn't throw games.

The amounts owed to gamblers was just too much.

And it was going on for a LONG time before he got caught.

Johnny Bench knew about the scumbags he was hanging out with in the early 70s.

He tried to talk to Pete, but to no avail.
