Vietnam to cut tariffs on US products including cars and gas to avoid President Trump's reciprocal tariffs.

I forgot to mention that my brother died at the young age of 51. Who knows if the time he spent there didn’t contribute to his health problems.
Since 1950 it’s tragic that America squandered so many lives and so much treasure fighting wars that our duplicitous leaders had no intention of winning.
The John Birch Society made that argument
My Dad also made the argument that Viernalm could be a check on Xhina. I blame IKE, just like I blame him for destroying McCarthy. But thier is no doubt that while ee were stuck on Vietnam, the Soviet Union was Abel to pass us in Military might.
America finally wins the Vietnam War!
Think Bobby Darin telling prison psychiatrist Sidney Potier: “We’re gonna need you”. His issue was against the Jooz.
Vietnam-we’re gonna need them vs. the Chicoms. Start out by giving them the $4 billion Kissinger promised.
I always felt that McCarthy got treated very unfairly...Patton too, over the slapping of that G.I. The media made a big deal about that. It was the beginning of the media problems that came to be.
The Korean War was a proxy war we were fighting against Russian and China since they were supplying the North Koreans. Then came Vietnam, and we fought against Russia and China again. Now in Ukraine, we have another proxy war against Russia. There are never complete victories in proxy wars. There's a lot of loss of life, and wasted taxpayer money with them. The only ones who win in proxy wars are the people who have investments in perpetuating those wars.
“We made Vietnam into a pretty good country. I hear good things from people who have visited.”
Interesting.
What’s it like in Viet Nam?
Mass murder and re-education can perform wonders.
“Europe is dying, Asia is the future.”
I was lucky to go to France, Belgium, and England while they were still great countries. Also the Philippines, Turkey, Malaysia, and Singapore. XLNT places to visit. Regret never getting Japan. I’d live in Singapore, but I’m happy in Spokane and my daughter lives here.
Philippines, Turkey, and Malaysia are fine places to visit if you don’t go where most of the people live...
(That’s not a knock on any particular individual, but, the conditions people live in are awful. Most areas of Manila beyond where tourists usually go? Ugh! Been there, done that...)
Singapore is better.
I’m not sure US made cars will sell well in many of these foreign countries anyway. A lot of the city streets are just too narrow, particularly in many places in Europe.
This discussion (I mean extending far beyond this thread) is missing a lot of data. For example, can anyone produce a graph of automobile (passenger cars including SUV’s and pickup trucks) production in the USA for the last 70 years or so?
It’d be interesting to look at both absolute numbers per year, and, in particular $$ volume adjusted for inflation, as the latter would help take into account cars simply having “a lot more in them” than, say, back in the 60’s - 80’s, and, even modern US built cars last much longer than in the past. My 2009 Subaru, built in Indiana, has almost 300k miles on it, runs great*, and most of what’s in it that are not common replacement parts are “factory”.
*MPG is down some, from what it got back @ 100k miles (just broken in!), but overall it runs fine. The biggest hassles have been the cat converter (at this point I just ignore the error message), wheel bearings (Subie should have put beefier/better bearings in a car meant for camping trips and such), and CV boots that split or get split.
reciprocal
Many people do not understand that word. Maybe intentionally ignorant because that would mean PDJT is doing good
Trump’s approach is to do 1:1 deals with other countries on trade to ensure fairness. The folks who have pushed for any trade deals of 3+ countries have really screwed over the USA as the numbers have shown.
If country A exports 100 billion USD of products/services to the USA and imports 90 billion USD of products/services then there is a 10 billion USD imbalance where we should raise tariffs on them until it’s more balanced. It’s really simple - keep it fair.
Now as far as Vietnam goes - Ho Chi Minh would have been a better friend to the US after WW1 than the French. Woodrow Wilson blew it. He turned Ho into a Communist. The term RINO for Liz Cheney is appropriate to apply as CINO over there. Just as we have Dem/Rep divisions in US politics so it is over there. They would be much better off to be more like us. I have spent almost 4 years total in Vietnam. On Wednesday afternoon this week I left Vietnam for my 12th time. The people there have always been wonderful to me. They do face plenty of challenged. I see this every day & will live this every day for the rest of my life as my wife & children are Vietnamese. We will see where things go for Vietnam. It is certainly much better for Vietnam to have MAGA succeed.
Free trade! Free Trade! Even if we are getting royally screwed Free Trade!
This shows that tariffs can work at getting free trade with countries despite the free traders regardless of the cost rantings.
