Fox News obtained exclusive information regarding the crew members aboard the Army helicopter at the time of the accident. The instructor pilot commanding the Black Hawk boasted 1,000 flying hours.

Meanwhile, his co-pilot was a woman with 500 flying hours, considered to be a standard level of experience in aviation circles.

The revelation that the co-pilot was a woman has reignited ongoing debates about gender roles within military operations.

I saw that earlier. And now I find out Trump was right that DEI might be the cause of the Reagan National crash. Boy, this man is phenomenal! MAGA2025!

I just read that ‘female’ pilot is actually a trans-identifying man. I thought that meant his hiring had nothing to do with DEI, until I remembered transgender is DEI. Elon Musk posted best comment: DEI must DIE.

Ok, I was wrong on the ranks... I thought she was the Capt. (Have never seen a woman WO).

Jo was a man (pretending to be a woman) suffering from gender dysphoria. It may have not have been a factor in the crash, but I find the public manifesto just before the crash a red flag.

Even if she was flying, pilot error can happen with men, too.

Doesn't matter whether she was flying or not, The Helicopter Aircraft Commander is responsible. As the co-fish she may contribute, but this is on his head no pun intended.

A 500 hour female... could be problematic.

500 hours is HAC check time.

If you are flying in a high traffic area, common sense says not to wear the NVGs.

Straight up BS.

Why would a helicopter flying in some of the most heavily used airspace in the world be on night vision goggles?

It is dark? NVGs are the greatest safety device helo pilots ever received. No NVGs and the probability of light to dark vertigo goes through the roof.

The timing of his article and the radio interview with Smerconish a day before his crash is not a coincidence but deliberate.

The helo wasn’t landing but yes, happens all the time. From the film, both were in the same reference frame.

I recognize reality.

Something reassuring about glancing in the cockpit and seeing a tall grey haired retired fighter pilot at the controls for sure. But hey, that's me.

The response to someone you disagree with is a REASON, not name-calling.

You’re kidding, right? There’s a group of posters that would disagree.

So, beyond the whole trans thing, it was a national guard pilot?

Aren’t they only on duty a weekend a month?

How would that schedule qualify for threading the nighttime needle through such a crowded little commercial corridor?

As usual, some of you are intent on finding a woman or non-white person to blame.

I chalk some of it up to upbringing.

You should have seen it last summer with several posters on various threads adamant that women should not be voting because some policy decision didn’t go the way they wanted. The sad part - a couple of women posters were in support.

Eh, the weekend duty is a bit misleading. You could do your two days any time during the month depending mission, MOS, etc.

And depending on the unit, then there were the “admin drills”. As a senior NCO, or officer you were expected to attend these unpaid drills. Not attending could hurt chances for promotion. The admin drills “fad” stopped for a lot of units in the late 80s/ early 90s as it was masking staffing shortages.
