California Ballot Initiative to Secede the Union Cleared to Gather Signatures
Breitbart ^ | 01/24/2025 | Katherine Hamilton

Posted on 01/25/2025 5:40:43 AM PST by DFG

A California ballot initiative proposing that the state become its own country and secede from the United States has been filed and cleared for signature gathering.

If the measure makes it onto the November 2028 ballot, it would ask voters: “Should California leave the United States and become a free and independent country?” local news outlet KCRA3 reported on Friday.

The guidelines would require 50 percent of registered voters to participate and a “yes” vote from 55 percent of voters, which would indicate “a vote of no confidence in the United States of America,” according to the report. The measure would further show that the “will of the people of California” is to become a country.

“According to the initiative’s language, it would not change California’s current government or relationship with the U.S. However, it would create a commission to report on California’s viability as an independent country,” the report states. “The initiative estimates one-time election-related costs, and forming a commission on national sovereignty and independence would cost $10 million. It estimates that operating the commission would take another $2 million in annual state costs.”

The circulation deadline is July 22, and the initiative requires 546,651 valid signatures.

“Legally seceding the country would require a constitutional amendment, which would require the approval of Congress and 38 states,” the report notes.

Maybe cession could be on a county-by-county basis.

Upon California declaring their independence from the United States, erect a border fence all the way from the Mexican border(on the Arizona side) to the point in the Nevada side, then all along the rugged reaches of the Sierra Mountains to Lake Tahoe, put a Coast Guard patrol on Lake Tahoe, continue the fence northward to the Oregon border, then westward to the ocean. Persons who have an order into exile from California shall only be accepted on a case by case basis, no others will be permitted to enter from California. Any trade or shipments into or out of California to the United States may only go through a third-party country.

Half measures will not suffice. The isolation has to be total.

Good Riddance...
In the mean time Trump should eliminate illegals from the census . Ca would get about 20% less house seats and electoral votes which is the way it should be.

: “Should California leave the United States and become a free and independent country?”

Well sure, and they can pay for the Rebuilding all by themsleves then too!

But no, men and women from across the nation fought and died to secure states like California for the nation- why should a bunch of liberal snots get to dishonor all those people and leave now that the state is secure and living comfortably off the lives of those great patriots? Why should the state get to benefit tremendously from being a part of the nation, then turn their back on the nation after their wealth and security are inplace?

Besides, their leaders are so ignorant that they can’t even see common sense solutions and prepare for eventual disasters! They would,be constantly demanding that the us support them when their money and resources run out!

Here’s why CA isn’t Mexico:

California processes nearly three times the container volume of all Mexican ports combined (8.3 million TEUs in 2022). The Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach alone are critical to the U.S. economy and global supply chains, making California’s ports irreplaceable assets.

Now, let’s talk about the strategic importance of California and why the U.S. wouldn’t allow it to secede. California’s economy is the fourth-largest in the world, and its ports, military bases, agriculture, and tech hubs are integral to national security and economic stability. Losing California would not just weaken the United States—it would create vulnerabilities that adversaries like China could exploit.

And then there’s the issue of China moving in militarily. Having China establish a military presence in California would be unthinkable—it would jeopardize U.S. sovereignty and control over the Pacific. But let’s be clear: we wouldn’t permit a significant Chinese military build-up in Mexico either. Even if it’s outside our borders, China positioning military assets in Mexico would threaten the U.S. homeland, disrupt trade routes, and undermine regional security. This is why the U.S. would treat such a move as a direct challenge to its strategic interests, just as it did during the Cuban Missile Crisis

If California succeeds in seceding, they will be voting to fund by themselves:

  1. wildfire response and recovery.
  2. insurance costs by companies located only within the country of California.
  3. water contained only within their country unless they negotiate a treaty with the United States over waterways that flow into California.
  4. immigration and border control with Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, and Oregon.
  5. income generation via income taxes, property taxes, estate taxes and sales taxes.

Good luck going at it all by yourselves, California.

INSURRECTION!!!
Civil War!!!!!

The left always blames somebody else to do what they are doing or planning.

The Democrats better think long and hard about this, as well as the people of California. I think it ends really bad for them.

They vote to secede, then let them.

Remove all materials from California Military Bases, Weapons, uniforms, supplies, medical. Close and shutdown all Social Security offices and Medicare offices and FEMA. Close any office that has to do with the federal government only.

Return all Congress and Senate Persons to California.

This is an Excellent idea. The stolen congress seats would be gone. And the water issues outside the state would be gone.

California would have to have its own military, Social Services and Currency. Have enough food for its citizens. And if they want to continue letting the it's borders open, that's fine. We will just have to have border fences and ports of entry into the United States.

Quite frankly, I don't think the new country would last very long.

But Heck, why not let them go?

California cannot and will not be allowed to secede. Our enemies would jump at the chance to move in.

The secessionists missed their chance. Had we seceded during the Biden administration, a newly independent California would have been instantly recognized by Russia, China, North Korea, Iran, Cuba, South Africa and most of the Muslim world. It would have been instantly granted UN membership, membership in BRICS, a military alliance with China, and Chinese military bases would have been set up--and Biden would have done nothing.

CA cannot afford leaving the gravy train of nationwide taxpayer $$$$$.

No way to fund their Illegals' Benefits, without outside assistance.

For the rest of the USA, CA leaving would free up a LOT of money for use elsewhere.

CA has 43 Dem representatives and two senators in Congress right now.

Take them out of the Capitol and you probably have a permanent R majority.

CA gets an immense amount of energy, water and funding from the other states, along with defense forces and judicial structure. Do you think the geniuses in their government can basically start over building a nation?

True enough.

If you back out California voting totals from recent elections, Reublican candidates would have won comfortably nationwide without California.

So Democrats nationally would be strongly opposed to California leaving the union.
