In an ideal world, words have meaning. But if you’re CNN and others who are just mindlessly gnashing their teeth at President Donald Trump for leaving the Paris Climate Agreement, words and facts fly straight out the window because, muh, rage!
Trump signed an executive order following his inauguration calling for “immediate” withdrawal from the Paris Climate Agreement “under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.” Now, terms matter. The agreement is NOT a “treaty,” regardless of whatever the dense climate dweebs at the UN choose to call it.
Article 2, Section 2, Clause 2 of the U.S. Constitution stipulates that the president “shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur.” Even The Associated Press acknowledged this in its January 21 reporting on Trump’s order, which also doesn’t mention the word “treaty” once. Even former President Barack Obama’s administration was adamant that the Paris Agreement was not a treaty, so he could sneakily bypass the Senate advice and consent requirement.
Framing the agreement as a treaty makes it seem like Trump is violating U.S. law by unilaterally withdrawing from it.

CNN. the media version of “made in china”. badly made, badly designed, badly implemented and of no lasting value. in other words cheap and worthless.
Somebody needs to ask that moron how many senators voted to ratify that “treaty” - no Senate approval, no treaty.
There are serious problems with the treaty power and especially the language of Article II specification, "two thirds of the Senators present." It doesn't even specify a quorum. We have had treaties ratified without a quorum on a voice vote. It is an abomination. Worse, the language in the Supremacy Clause supposedly constraining treaties to existing Constitutional limitations, is (to my mind deliberately) ambiguous because of the placement of commas. It needs an Amendment to fix these problems. We have had treaties empowering the government to exercise wildly beyond pre-existing Constitutional limitations. As of now, the Federill Grub-a-mint has agreed to abide by treaties upon the signature of ANY Federill ossifer, this despite the fact that the treaty empowering that supposed authority was never ratified.
To learn how all this works, see Patrick Henry "Ratified": The Treaty Power, Its Perils and Portents to learn how our government really works.
Sadly, this is not true anymore, which is why Bush II had to "unsign" the ICC Treaty that was never ratified. See post 6.

We haven’t ratified too many treaties recently

They see ‘treatly’, and think ‘teaty’.
> Even former President Barack Obama’s administration was adamant that the Paris Agreement was not a treaty
This is the point. Zero chose not to seek ratification because he knew it would fail, so he elected to live by it with MSM air cover. Trump45 exited, Brandon re-entered again without ratifying, and Trump47 now exits.
The only storm here is that the MSM likes to pretend that they define reality and truth is again smacking them in the face.
Leaves an open question though. Logistically how does a pact like this, or as Brandon tried to resurrect, an amendment like the ERA, get formally rejected? We (non-pretending) know what makes these permanently enacted, but the converse?
Well anyone who believes CNN is pretty dumb anyway.
I was in on a conversation with some people, one of whom is a big CNN viewer. She went to all the expensive, swanky schools growing up. She fancies herself super educated.
The other two people were guys who are green card holders. Went to high school in their countries, no college.
They tried to explain the how the electoral college works to the CNN viewer. It was actually quite painful to watch, no matter how much they tried to explain the history of and reason for the EC she just didn’t get it.
“And that’s why more people are watching the Cartoon Network, ‘Spongebob’ reruns right now.”
Rep. Burchett, TN
it was a CNN trans-treaty.
Ha ... but seriously, between this stuff, ‘dream’ BS, student loan executive orders, and us undoing what they do and they undoing what we do, this is one of the more serious problems plaguing us.
Elections bah, who cares about Congress? Just order something with no bill or law to back it up, or find out which series of judges can create law out of thin air.
yes, I still want to see what details were in the secret Kerry led Iran nuclear fake treaty. none of this could happen if the party biased news media was actually trying to uncover the truth.
