Truth in media, should be the law of the land.
So, all media sources should research all their reports before putting them out there to the public. Intentionally false reports should result in warnings to the violators. Intentionally reporting falsely many times, should equal revocation of the media source’s license, with penalties in monetary compensation to the damaged parties.
While at it, perhaps truth in politics should also be the law of the land. Thus, if one is accused of being an agent of Russia or China or some other enemy entity, the campaign involved should be punished and the candidate involved should have to compensate the injured party. Russia/Russia/Russia would never have happened.
During the Summer we watch NEPA News, WNEP has huge news ratings and they have a gigantic service area. That said, the station ownership has a “feature,” VERIFY, which is chock full of media spin. The really lose credibility airing that and ABCWoildGnus2Nite with the breathless David Muir. They have no choice, though...
During the writers strike it became apparent to me that the 3 industry executives who were collectively bargaining on behalf of the studios (Bob Iger, Ted Sarandos, and the nbc woman ) didn't know fundamental things about their business and their lawyers weren't telling them involving basic contract law - settled stuff. The more I paid attention the more I notice these folks acting like morons who didn't understand their own business. They cost their investors billions and engaged in a labor strike needlessly to get a worse deal then the writers proposed at the start. These studios don't have to do business with these labor unions but they do - so its a part of their business and not a new one. The weird thing is the studios writers and actors are all just different types of dinosaurs they needed each other but instead created a vacuum in a highly lucrative market space right as AI is becoming a tool to providing entertainment content. The AI don't need the studios and the writers oh noes.
