President Biden commutes the sentences of most federal death row inmates. Calling it a “common sense revolution,” President-elect Donald Trump delivers a rally-style speech about the transition and policy, less than a month from taking office. And two big-name auto companies officially announce plans to join forces. These stories and more highlight your Unbiased Updates for Monday, Dec. 23, 2024.
President Joe Biden granted clemency to almost all the inmates on federal death row Monday morning, Dec. 23. Now, the sentences of 37 of the 40 people facing death will be commuted to life without parole.
“I am more convinced than ever that we must stop the use of the death penalty at the federal level,” Biden said in a statement. “In good conscience, I cannot stand back and let a new administration resume executions that I halted.”
The three men not granted clemency are: Dylann Roof, who killed nine Black members of Mother Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina in 2015; Robert Bowers, who fatally shot 11 congregants at Pittsburgh’s Tree of Life Synagogue in 2018, the deadliest antisemitic attack in U.S. history; and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, one of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombers.
In 2021, the Justice Department imposed a moratorium on executions so it could review policies and procedures. No federal inmate has been executed during the Biden administration, though this year the DOJ said it would seek the death penalty for a white gunman who killed 10 Black people during a racially motivated shooting at a grocery store in Buffalo, New York in 2022.
Biden’s move of presidential commutation, which is irreversible, comes just weeks before President-elect Trump takes office. Trump has said he would resume executions and may attempt to expand the crimes that qualify for capital punishment.
Marxists are all about causing chaos in society.
WTF
that’s an Obama middle finger
Look! Another drone!
“that’s an Obama middle finger”
Exactly.....you don’t think that retarded potato biden thought this up own his own do you?
If he was so ‘religious’ about the Death Penalty, then why didn’t he commute ALL 40?..............
It’s not just about commutations of the death penalty for 37 criminals, this action will have long term consequences, it will effectively end the death penalty in Federal Cases, from here on out anyone getting sentenced to death in a federal case will make argument about the 37 getting clemency and they will have a valid if not insane reason to make the argument.
“I am more convinced than ever that we must stop the use of the death penalty at the federal level”.
But THEY weren’t.
So does this now open the door for these demons to file appeals to have their cases reviewed I wonder?
It will also increase the crimes committed that call for the death penalty..............
It’s a pet peeve of mine, so I try to grouse about it now and again.
The Founders fought to get rid of a king. Then they gave the president an unchecked, king-like pardon power. Perhaps a time-limited Congressional veto of a presidential pardon should have been considered.
Not sure, but this seems to be a permanent thing and not appealable....................
A little research reveals Merrick Garland imposed a moratorium on federal executions on July 1, 2021.....apparently they’ve been planning this for a while.
They probably paid the Venezuelan government to take that criminal gang off their hands.
I think the pardoner in chief should take their places.
I almost posted this.
I was too angry.
This is from CA activists.
Remember the old song Pardon Me Ray, about the Tennessee governor?

Well now it is PARDON ME JOE!
Pardon me, Joe,
Are you the cat that signs the pardons?
Since you’re an old friend of mine
Just put your name on the line
(Put it on the line)
Double murder and rape
That’s all the jury put me in for
And I’m sure you’ll agree
They took advantage of me
Take a hundred thousand dollars, slip it under the door
Don’t mention any names and I won’t say what it’s for
Ain’t no use in cryin’
You’re not the one who’s dyin’
I gotta get my money’s worth for what I’m buyin’****
“Birds of a feather”
They’re his fellow demons from hell.....
Exactly. I would disagree with but have some respect for a person who opposed ALL deaths penalties. Just killing “some”, because of who or how they killed makes no logical sense at all.
