HOW DUMB ARE OUR SENATORS?
Powerline ^ | 15 Nov 2024 | John Hinderaker

Posted on 11/15/2024 7:04:03 PM PST by Rummyfan

We try to be polite in talking about our political opponents, but sometimes it is impossible. Some of them are–there is no other way to put it–morons. Such as Senator Mazie Hirono, Democrat from Hawaii. I can’t find a good clip of her comments during Wednesday’s Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on bump stocks, but here is a report:

Hirono began her opening remarks by referencing an earlier hearing in which the “entire panel” of witnesses agreed that “this nation is awash in guns.”

She went on to stress the phrase “awash in guns” at least three more times, then said, “Meanwhile, the Supreme Court in various decisions, Heller was pretty much an astounding decision to me when suddenly, individual could, [under] the Second Amendment, individuals could own firearms.”

The idea that individuals couldn’t own firearms–or, more charitably, that we didn’t have the right to own firearms–until the Heller decision in 2008, is mind-blowingly stupid.

More:

She then jumped to the Bruen (2022) decision, feigning shock that, “Suddenly, we’re supposed to look to what the Founding Fathers thought about in…1791 or some astounding time-frame such as that.”

Suddenly. Suddenly we are supposed to care about our Constitution, even though it was adopted in the “astounding time-frame” of 1788.

It is depressing to realize that there are only 100 senators, and Mazie Hirono is one of them.

Patty Murray is up there - down there? - in the stupidity department too.

A nation of over three hundred million people and these are whom get elected to The Senate?!

Loaded question. I don’t have enough hours in a day to answer that.

Unfortunately, a good number of our senators and representatives are far from being our “best and brightest.”

“HOW DUMB ARE OUR SENATORS?”

Good question John. On a scale of 1-10, I would say a 5.

Now a question for you. How dumb are the voters who reelect the same dumb senators over and over again?

Put a gun to my head and I still wouldn’t be able to name a single liberal female who isn’t mind-numbingly stupid.

Actually, I think they are pretty smart. They have learned how to talk out of their nether regions. None of us can do that. 😀

Pretty sure most of them are dumber than dog crap. They just have a knack for selling themselves and are willing to do it. They’re part of the oldest profession.

The US is “awash in guns” because citizens simply do not trust our government. Enforcement of law went out the window with senile Joe, destruction of dollar purchasing power, endless wars ( Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Libya, Ukraine,…), illegal aliens everywhere, rising taxes, and corrupted politicians at every level.

For many, many moons, I worked for and with people with developmental disabilities (DD).

There was one interaction I witnessed in a grocery store. Some young skull full of mush was in the checkstand, and was questioning the DD person in a very inappropriate (stupid) way. My client actually said “I was born this way, what is your excuse?”

Could say the same about many politicians.

I’d pay to watch a game of Trivial Pursuit between Patty and Kamala.

It actually shows how dumb their voting constituents are.

Is it inbreeding of a closed native population of the islands of Hawaii?

>> these are whom get elected to The Senate?!

Interesting how you put that in the passive voice.

Right! Sure! “Some People Did Some Stuff” and POOF! They Get Elected.

NO. NO NO NO NO NO!

Here’s what happens. We The People ABUSE the precious gift of a Constitutional Republic with separation of powers &etc &etc. In OUR laziness and absorption in ourselves and music and sports and teevee and etc too many of us don’t even clear the ABSURD MINIMUM BAR and VOTE. The next highest (ALSO absurdly low) bar is to KNOW THE CANDIDATES AND VOTE INTELLIGENTLY.

Men (mostly) and women GAVE THEIR LIFE BLOOD to secure over two centuries of this precious gift and We The People far too often spit on it.

Not meaning to insult you personally Rummyfan, and in fact many of us here are part of the solution not part of the problem...

but be aware and admit to yourself — and then PREACH — that the “We The People” function (actually the Kings and Queens at the APEX of government) is the MOST BROKEN piece of American government.

That — and not some accident or fate — is how stupid, corrupt, lazy, self serving senators get elected!

/soapbox

We had a higher quality of Senators overall when they were controlled by the states.
