As far as I can understand, it looks like NJ's sales tax on precious metal purchases will be going away. Last year, the bill passed both houses, but the governor failed to either veto or sign within 45 days -- and because this happened at the end of a legislative session, it automatically became a "pocket veto."
The bill was reintroduced, again passed both houses (on June 28), and the governor once again took no action within 45 days. However, because it was not the end of a legislative session, the bill should automatically pass and become law (according to my understanding of NJ law).
We should find out for certain on September 11, which is the next meeting of the NJ legislature since the 45 days expired.
Of course, knowing the shenanigans that crooked carpetbagger Gov. Phil Murphy is capable of, I would not be surprised if he found some monkey wrench to stop or delay this bill from becoming law. Either way, we should know later this week.
To take care of the recipients of all the gold bars Menendez probably handed out over the years?
I doubt that Menendez’ method of obtaining those gold bars ever involved him paying any sales tax....
Sales tax and casinos was supposed to be the economic miracle in NJ. The property taxes are absolutely insane. NJ is a rapidly dying state run by one party permanently entrenched Democrat “bosses”. It’s a crime syndicate disguised as government.
Legislature changed its calendar again — now it’s meeting on 9/12 (was 9/11).
