The Foo Fighters are clarifying that they didn’t approve of one of their songs being played during a Donald Trump rally in Arizona.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. dropped out of the presidential race and the independent politician is now backing the former Republican president.
During a rally in Gilbert in the swing stage, the song “My Hero” was played, and now the band, fronted by Dave Grohl, is breaking their silence.
“Let us be clear,” the band’s social media account on X/Twitter posted.
The band shared a screenshot of an exchange with another X user asking the Foo Fighters if they had let Trump use their song.
“No,” the Foo Fighters replied.
A Foo Fighters representative said in a statement to EW, “Foo Fighters were not asked permission, and if they were, they would not have granted it.” The band also noted that they would donate royalties generates from Trump’s usage of the song to Kamala Harris’ campaign.
Earlier this month, Celine Dion’s team also publicly rejected the Trump campaign used the singer’s “My Heart Will Go On” during a rally.
“Today, Celine Dion’s management team and her record label, Sony Music Entertainment Canada Inc., became aware of the unauthorized usage of the video, recording, musical performance, and likeness of Celine Dion singing ‘My Heart Will Go On’ at a Donald Trump / JD Vance campaign rally in Montana,” read the statement from August 10.
“In no way is this use authorized, and Celine Dion does not endorse this or any similar use,” the statement continued. “…And really, THAT song?”
Just start calling them the Foo Phizers.
Okay, wait. So, if I have a big BBQ or say a block party and I play one of their songs, I have to get their approval first?? If I host an outdoor teen dance up at the park, I need their approval to play their songs? Do radio DJ’s need their approval to play their songs? If I play their cd in my car, do I need their approval? Inquiring minds wanna know!
Foo Fighters, another whiny-assed millennial band from the 90’s.
I’ve never heard of the Poo Flingers before. Are they a musical group or what?
At the Trump rally in Asheboro this week, I rhetorically asked my sons why the event couldn’t play the “cool” music.
Answer: Most popular entertainers become wealthy, insulated, and Leftist. They love to engage in imaginary crusades of fighting evil by preventing their own songs being listened to at Trump rallies. I doubt any rallygoers would hear a popular song playing in the background and think, ‘Wow, this artist must support Trump.’
BTW: I also thought I saw former Lt. Governor Dan Forest at the rally, only to realize later it was former Congressman Mark Walker :).
Yes, they do. Ant content creator knows the laws and rules.
What an establishment bootlicker Dave’s become. Hope his neighborhood gets overrun with 5’2” Central Americans and their SpongeBob square pants shaped wives.
so they’re not donating their money but they’ll donate Trump’s 50 cents ,LOL
Poo Flingers? You can see them st your local zoo.
“Poo Fighters”. Lol silly, but so funny.
This whole episode demonstrates the the stupidity of most celebrities. The analogous situation would be Donald Trump building a skyscraper, selling it to a hotel chain, and then complaining years later about the hotel renting a room to some has-been musicians.
Yes, that is probably the case.
Oh, I totally agree. These musicians probably actually like it because otherwise nobody would be playing their songs anymore. And whining is a good chance to polish their cray cray democrat creds for the hollywood crowd.
Like who still listens to Poo Fighters?
The Foo Fighters are bitchy fools. That’s sad.
What is the amount of the royalty?
From Copilot:
“The royalties for playing a song at a political rally can vary widely, depending on several factors such as the specific licensing agreements and the popularity of the song. Generally, political campaigns need to secure a public performance license from organizations like the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) or Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) to legally play music at their events12.
The cost of these licenses can range significantly. For example, a blanket license from ASCAP or BMI, which covers a wide range of songs, might cost anywhere from a few hundred to several thousand dollars, depending on the size and scope of the event12. However, specific royalty rates for individual songs are not typically disclosed publicly and can depend on negotiations between the rights holders and the event organizers.
If you have a specific song or artist in mind, it might be best to contact the relevant performing rights organization or the rights holders directly for more precise information.”
Turns out Trump had the license rights from BMI songview service.
The artist does not need to approve.
Apparently they are still liked in Colombia. At least that’s the last time I heard of them in the news... in 2022, when their mild-druggie drummer died in Bogotá.
Believe it or not, Foo Fighters have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. For what? Name a hit song by this band consisting of former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl and some other guys. Grohl consorts with rock stars and covers their hits live. Other than that he’s good at self promotion.
