AUSTRALIA’S WINTER CONTINUES TO DEFY BOM FORECASTS; EV INDUSTRY ON THE BRINK OF COLLAPSE; + NO CAUSE FOR ALARM

EV INDUSTRY ON THE BRINK OF COLLAPSE

It has become clear that the electric vehicle industry is on the brink of collapse.

Profits at the German auto giant Mercedes plunged on Friday as sales of its new range of EVs went into freefall

Porsche abandoned its sales targets for battery-powered cars amid waning demand from customers.

Ford is losing nearly $50,000 on every EV it sells, while Tesla’s profits dropped 45pc.

Meanwhile, battery manufacturers such as Germany’s Varta are getting wiped out.

As concluded by Matthew Lynn, writing for the telegraph.co.uk, hundreds of billions have been pumped into this industry by political leaders and the subsidy junkies that surround them – and it is surely time they were held to account for the vast quantities of taxpayer cash that has been wasted.

EV’s are nothing more than virtue signalling trinkets for the ideologues. They are not ready for the masses. Nor do they work logically, i.e. they are not ‘green’ (to manufacture or run). If it weren’t for subsidies, the free market would have organically disposed of EVs many moons ago.

Battery technology is not yet mature, and the public charging networks still experience a lot of reliability issues.

So what? Batteries do not produce electricity, they STORE electricity from the only reliable sources, coal or nuclear power plants.

Any attempt to remove the coal plants from the equation (that is the intent), will be the downfall of the energy infrastructure that sustains this country.

No, your thread's title isn't any more deserving of attention that anybody else's. Mind your manners.

If they’ll just hang on until our entire military runs on batteries, they’ll be set!

I get your point and generally agree. I did not type it.

Do you have a substantive comment? :)

I believe the DC military brass gives lip service to renewables because it gets them good press.

Unfortunately, they waste $billions on green demonstration projects, such as powering a navy ship on vegetable oil or some such

Other liberal crap, like DEI, they are truly pushing because that same brass is in all the way on controlling the people.

The people who bet on EV are the same people who bet on the Stanley Steamer.

I wouldn’t park a hybrid in my attached garage. Same type of battery as the explosive EVs.

“they STORE electricity from the only reliable sources, coal or nuclear power plants.”

ONLY? Hydroelectric is not a reliable source? I’ve yet, in my 70 years known of a time Columbia and Snake River dams weren’t producing electricity.

The batteries I hear about being unstable, catching fire are the e-bike batteries. Perhaps cheap construction or they get knocked about during use.

One e-bike battery overheated...the fellow was taking it outside to cool off and it exploded in the elevator on the way down.

Hydro generated power was “big” 80 or 100 years ago. Not so, today, not that much percentage-wise. Maybe 5-6%. Less if they keep breaching dams.

“Maybe 5-6%.”

Um, near me are 14 power-generating dams with 14,000 megawatts of generating capacity. Plus a Nuke.

There are many stories of EVs catching fire, several of which were inside an attached garage. These were not cheaply made vehicles - they include Teslas & city buses.

This article says that Hybrid vehicles have far more fires than pure EVs & ICE vehicles.

The greenies, (reds), want us to give up coal just as China is expanding coal produced electricity. Coincidence?

Did Hunter sell the chi-coms any old Scranton coal mines?

Australia is having the coldest winter in decades,
Yes. I buy from a vendor on eBay, near Melbourne who specializes in replica boxes and parts for Dinky, Corgi and Matchbox models. According to the Weather Channel there's frost warnings as well as sheep grazers warnings. A very unusual cold snap is expected around Melbourne this weekend.
