This is OMG on steroids. It is intense and doesn't have a happy ending. Please do not watch if you are squeamish. Poor guy.

What happened is that the guy overheated his battery and decided to take it outside to cool off. Unfortunately, for him, the electrical activity of the elevator overheated the battery even more and that was too much.

I had a Fitbit battery go all china-syndrome on me once. Got it off my wrist before 2nd degree burns and tossed it out on the patio where it went into full thermometamorphosis.

I used to bicycle down the coast of Kalifornia, back when it was California and Reagan Country. Now, I just bike for fun. I was considering an EV bike until I read about such events. A year or two ago, there was a bicycle shop that has a 24/7 security camera in the store. One night, a few of these same EV bike batteries exploded/burned most of the shop’s entire inventory. I have declined to purchase an EV bike. I like my house, my skin, and especially my internal combustion, hydrocarbon-powered automobiles.
Pray for this victim and his family.

The most horrible thing I've seen on FR.
I wish I hadn't watched it.
Where did this occur?

That battery didn’t look all that big - imagine if it was an EV battery in a car.

In Việt Nam there are millions of those things. It seems that every ten year old has one and I have never seen or heard of a battery exploding. I have heard of at least a few here burning down sheds and trees and at least one exploding while being ridden.
