I used to bicycle down the coast of Kalifornia, back when it was California and Reagan Country. Now, I just bike for fun. I was considering an EV bike until I read about such events. A year or two ago, there was a bicycle shop that has a 24/7 security camera in the store. One night, a few of these same EV bike batteries exploded/burned most of the shop’s entire inventory. I have declined to purchase an EV bike. I like my house, my skin, and especially my internal combustion, hydrocarbon-powered automobiles.

Pray for this victim and his family.

I have a e-bike and do follow the fire reports. However, it’s my impression that all or virtually all of the fires have to do with modified changers and/or battery packs. I can not remember seeing a single instance of a fire occurring in a stock setup with the charger being operated within normal parameters (e g. Not trying to charge a frozen or overheated or damaged battery or overcharging). It is possible that such a scenario has occurred but I haven’t seen it.
