Election 2024: The Game Has Changed, and Republicans Have to Recognize That to Avoid Disaster
Red State ^ | 07/23/2024 | Bonchie

With more than enough delegates pledged to Kamala Harris along with top Democrat endorsements from Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, Hillary Clinton, and others, it seems all but inevitable. The current vice president will be the Democratic Party nominee following Joe Biden's decision to step aside.

The immediate reaction from the right, including myself, was largely one of mockery. We posted the videos. We laughed at the memes. We pointed out that Trump still bests Harris in most polls. To be sure, there's nothing wrong with that. Everything said about her awkward, inauthentic presentation is true, and Trump is still the favorite based on the data we currently have.

Still, there's a point where over-confidence begins to creep in, and it's starting to feel like Republicans have reached that point. That's not a call for panic. Not at all, but if you're only into people telling you how the election is already over and Harris is going to get crushed, you might want to not read any further.

Let's start with the upcoming debate, or possibly debates if Donald Trump's announcement of wanting to do more than one holds. Is Harris a good debater? Having seen her throughout the 2020 Democrat presidential primary and in the general election, I don't think she's great. Heck, it was a now-famous debate answer by Tulsi Gabbard that essentially ended Harris' presidential campaign.

SEE: Tulsi Gabbard Absolutely Wrecked Kamala Harris at Last Night's Democrat Primary Debate

Kamala got rekt. Absolutely brutal. https://t.co/iDoEN3I6di— Siraj Hashmi (@SirajAHashmi) August 1, 2019

With that said, it's important to remember that Harris is not an 81-year-old Joe Biden. She is not going to show up at a debate slurring her words, unable to articulate a point. You can expect her to show up well-rehearsed and ready to hit her marks. Her presentation will always reek of inauthenticity because that's who she is, but as long as she's coherent, the press will proclaim it the best debate performance in history.

Now, let's talk about the other side of the coin. I may ruffle some feathers by saying this, but Donald Trump is not a great debater either. It was reported that he didn't even prepare for his debate against Biden, and at times it showed. Fortunately, Biden was imploding in front of everyone's eyes, and that was the story of the night. No one cared that Trump rambled at times and missed several points of attack that he really shouldn't have.

And why would they care? That debate ended Biden's presidential campaign. In the broader context, what was there not to like? Believing that will translate to a debate with Harris, though, is foolish and the kind of over-confidence that scares me. The vice president is not going to implode on the stage and start mumbling incoherently. She will have her talking points, and she will be ready to deliver them.

How did Gabbard counter that during that debate in 2019? With a heavily researched and planned answer that took Harris' record apart in front of American voters. That's the kind of preparation Trump is going to need to land a knock-out blow. There won't be any softballs this time.

Moving past that discussion, there's a lot of talk about Harris being a "DEI hire" and her sexual history, including her affair with Willie Brown that objectively launched her career. All of that is true. Biden pledged to make a woman vice president, and Harris' record and abilities would have never been enough had she been a white male. It is also simply a fact that Brown gave Harris two lucrative board positions and introduced her to all the power players in San Francisco. Without that, no one would know her name today.

Could harping on that backfire by producing sympathy for Harris? Yes, it could. If you don't believe that, just look at how much sympathy Democrats have produced for Trump by overplaying their hand. It is possible to push too far and cause voters to recoil. It is not going to be enough to shout "DEI" over and over. Harris has a record, and that record must be meticulously and strategically taken apart for every American to see.

Before y’all get cocky, remember they elected Fetterman 1.0 and Basement Biden. Focus. Shitposting doesn’t turn out the vote. Shoe leather does.— Harmeet K. Dhillon (@pnjaban) July 23, 2024

Right now, I see a lot of Republicans thinking they can just meme their way to victory. That's far too online of a viewpoint. As I said earlier, I'm all for having fun, but beating Harris is going to take discipline and a well-planned political assault. In the short term, everyone should be prepared for her to start leading in some polls and a total reset of the national narrative. That's not coming from me. That's coming from Trump's own pollster.

NEW- Memo from Trump Campaign Pollster Tony Fabrizio:

The last big consideration is money. Biden was being strangled by donors. That has now ended with Harris at the top of the ticket. The cash is flowing, and if it hasn't already happened, Democrats are poised to pass up Republicans soon when it comes to total resources on hand. That alone is a major game changer.

Yes, there will be an onslaught of ads, but more importantly, Democrats will now have the money needed to pay volunteers and build ground game infrastructure. Republicans can't just expect to do a few rallies in swing states and drive enough turnout any longer. It's going to take an incredibly well-organized effort to outdo Democrats on the ground.

In short, this is going to be a dogfight. Two days ago, the election was all but over. Today, it's back to being a toss-up, albeit against a very flawed, very beatable candidate in Kamala Harris. If Republicans don't take the threat seriously and adjust to it, they could wake up on November 6th facing disaster.

ive thought about that...just say shes not the legitmate nominee, and im not gonna justify what they did to “our democracy”. Flip the script on em. Thats all they are talking about, is her attacking him in a debate, because she was a prosecutor. Its their only hope.

Now ask me why I pay so little attention to pundits.

$$ have no impact on this race. How much did $80+ million in campaign ads by Biden move the needle? He lost ground as he squandered the ad money.

Kamala can’t spin this economy and open border into a positive message. This will be like Hillary in 2016. The more people saw her, the more they jumped ship.

We just have to vote like it’s the last chance to save the USA.

Trump and Republicans need to dismantle the big lie that Biden/Harris’ legislative record is a big success. For all the trillions they spent, America got nothing in return. Covid mandates? Democrats paid people not to work. Inflation Reduction Act? America got raging inflation. Chip Act? Companies won’t touch the subsidies because of all the strings attached. Green New Deal? Dealer lots full of unsold and unwanted EVs.

Exactly..Clinton spent 2 BILLION, led in every poll, and still lost. They waited way too long and it just looks too shady to almost everyone. It looks like exactly what it is, a political HAIL MARY..

I see Ineligible Harris as a super-losing candidate, should she indeed receive the nomination.
The public has seen her in the Veep job these last 3-4 years and the picture ain’t pretty. Not at all.

Since those controlling the strings of the D party political machine DO want to win so that they can retain power (mis-use of our government’s power is very profitable, just ask the Bidens or Clintons),

I think the D party will wind up with new and likeable faces as candidates for both POTUS and Veep. (Maybe well-regarded sports or entertainment figures?)

We will see. Right now, Harris would drag the entire D ticket down. A lot.

Agree, and agree with Trump needs prepare better like memorize a few numbers, the number of illegals estimated to be let in, inflation rate etc, not just say it was better during his term. He doesn't need to prepare for a week but a couple of days would help. to his credit he did seemed more disciplined and he did not go on about the election being stolen in 2020 (and yes I beleive it was)

Who cares if they don’t kiss Trumps butt. We don’t want that. We need political folks that will push us to do everything we have to do to win. Imagine if we were just following the butt kisser who said ‘everything’s perfect’. You get lazy and go over a cliff. How many damn elections going off a cliff is it going to take to prove you are following a losing strategy. You shouldn’t group the advice from conservative/right leaning media in with mainstream medias advice. One is rooting for the left & the other is rooting against.

I’ve run campaigns and please believe me you always want a couple of people advising a candidate that arent a natural personality fit or super friendly with the candidate. If you have only people you are really friendly with- you become friends, lose focus & get extremely lazy & you don’t even realize what’s happening. Everything the writer wrote is absolutely good advice & he obviously wants our side to succeed & win the election. I’d have also gone with somebody different than Vance. The reason Trump is running ahead this year is b because he softened his approach & has been making an effort at likeability.

It would have been extremely smart if he had blunted any attempt for Democrats to use race as a wedge by picking someone useful in that respect. Obviously, first & foremost, pick conservative & populist, but also remember that as VP, it’s not a huge concern to make them an idealogy. A VP is no longer a shoe in for the nomination in the next election. Especially for conservatives, after a 2 term President, we usually want a Governor or somebody different. That makes it possible to use the VP slot as a ticket balancer or way of drawing in or shoring up a demographic needed to win. I though Trump should’ve picked Tulsi Gabbard or Tim Scott, etc 😉

It requires strict regulation to insure fair elections. A lesson from our earlist elections.

totally agree, especially with the shady way this idiot was handed the nomination. Even if they did this with Michelle Obama, i just dont see it. Thatcher did win in GB, but the way they hold elections is kind of weird. The United States is just too big. Its going to take a special woman/politician to get elected here. Shes going to have to be attractive yet have the knowledge and the smarts. Like a Kristi Noem and Condelezza Rice combined. Clinton knew the policies, but she was just too shrill and “angry”. Kamalas voice is like a train whistle to every mans ears. Obama is also just too “angry”. Gretchen Whitmer talks to voters like they are 5 years old, with a horrible, sing-song voice. That might sound superficial, but its true. If they come off as shrill, angry, and ***chy, its never gonna happen.

I agree. “It would have been extremely smart if he had blunted any attempt for Democrats to use race as a wedge by picking someone useful in that respect.”

I was recommending Lieutenant Colonel (Ret.) Allen West to be Trump’s VP pick. He’s tough, smart, and a proven leader. But most of all, he would have been the last person Democrats would have wanted to step into the presidency if Trump was removed. But that is now water under the bridge, as they say.
