Spin Cycle: Democrats Say There’s No Debate; Incapacity Is Still Better Than Trump
Daily Wire ^ | July 1, 2024 | Virginia Kruta

For those who don’t spend their Sunday mornings glued to the television — and their Sunday afternoons attempting to dig through a week’s worth of network and cable news media spin — The Daily Wire has compiled a short summary of what you may have missed.

From the moment he took the stage at Thursday night’s debate, it was clear that President Joe Biden was not going to live up to his party’s — and the media’s — repeated promises that he was “sharp and commanding” and showed no signs of “mental feebleness.”

Instead, a visibly confused Biden stood onstage, slack-jawed, as former President Donald Trump delivered clear responses. When Biden did speak, his voice was weak and his answers rambling. Within minutes of the debate’s start, the conversation on social media was not about whose answers painted a better picture for the American people moving forward, but about how terrible Biden looked — particularly in contrast to Trump.

And while the immediate reaction to the debate — from Democrats — was panic, which quickly gave way to calls for Biden to step aside and make way for either Vice President Kamala Harris or someone else of the party’s choosing.

Former President Barack Obama put a different spin on the disastrous debate performance, however, and by Sunday morning, it was clear that the rest of his party — with a few exceptions — was falling in line.

“Bad debate nights happen. Trust me, I know. But this election is still a choice between someone who has fought for ordinary folks his entire life and someone who only cares about himself. Between someone who tells the truth; who knows right from wrong and will give it to the American people straight — and someone who lies through his teeth for his own benefit. Last night didn’t change that, and it’s why so much is at stake in November,” Obama posted via X.

Senator Chris Coons (D-DE) made an appearance on ABC’s “This Week,” where his assessment of the situation closely mirrored Obama’s.

“It was a weak debate performance by President Biden,” Coons conceded before adding, “But I think, side by side, Donald Trump had a horrifying debate performance where, yes, he spoke plainly, but what he said was lie after lie after lie.”

Coons insisted that Biden was prepared to “get back up and fight harder” after the debate – and took it a step further, saying that Biden was “the only Democrat who can beat Donald Trump.”

Rep. Jim Himes (D-CT) took a similar tone on CBS’ “Face the Nation,” suggesting to anchor Margaret Brennan that what mattered was not the debate but the last several years of Biden’s presidency.

Himes, when asked how America’s foreign adversaries might be reacting to Biden’s debate performance, said that Biden had established a “four year record” on the global stage, “setting a tone that the rest of the world says, ‘Wow, America is back to the decent leader that we used to believe that it was prior to the Trump administration.'”

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) response was to immediately deflect. Speaking with anchor — and debate moderator — Dana Bash on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Pelosi asked, “Well, what do they think about the other guy? Do they think that he has the integrity to be president after that performance?”

Pelosi also attempted to throw out concerns about Biden’s mental acuity by claiming, “There are health care professionals who think that Trump has dementia. If we’re just talking about mental acuity, let’s be fair about it.”

Pelosi doubled down when she appeared later on MSNBC’s “Inside with Jen Psaki,” where she spoke with the former White House Press Secretary about the debate as well.

“As you may recall, I tore up his speech at the State of the Union because it was a total manifesto of lies,” she claimed. “And that’s what we saw the other night.”

Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) told “Fox News Sunday” anchor Shannon Bream that he did not believe it was time for Biden to stand down, citing his own difficulties during the 2022 election.

Joe "6-Handicap" Biden.

This seems to be a recurring defense, incompetent Biden still better than Trump. Do they really think Democrat voters are that stupid?

If Biden steps down, whoever the replacement is has to be attacked by every Republican in Congress on every TV appearance as being proof that the Democrat party really doesn't care about "voters" or "disenfranchised" or "every vote must count," because they lied to our faces every day for four years about the health of Joe Biden just to keep their own elite positions of power.

That has to be the message that is sent to the voters from now until Election Day.

How can you trust the Democrat Party now after what they did to steal your vote from you?

Wouldn't you have preferred to make the informed choice of [fill in the blank candidate] during the primary when you voted? Can't you see how little your party leaders thought of you when they ran Biden for a second term instead of the person they're asking you to support now?

How can you let them do that to you again?

Is he talking about Biden?

someone who has fought for ordinary folks. Really? Check his stance on Civil Rights in the 1960-70's

someone who tells the truth. Russiagate, his uncle eaten by cannibals, and hundreds of other lies he tells.

knows right from wrong Like the quid pro quo on US aid if the Ukrainian prosecutor going after Hunter wasn't fired.

will give it to the American people straight Like the secrete deals between Hunter and China and his slice of the pie.

50 years at the gov't trough and one is hard-pressed to think of a major piece of legislation that helped the average American. He's a disgrace and clear evidence that Jill should stop handing out Participation Trophies to him.

Not sure stupidity is the word. The rats will only dump Traitor Joe if they decode he cannot win. They are ok with a dementia patient being their candidate if he can win, that is what matters to them. If you reversed everything Trump would be gone. We would demand it and so would the party. Not because he is unelectable but because we don’t want a mentally disabled person running our country.

Dims would vote for a ham sandwich, even one served without the ham, if it was called a Democrat Ham Sandwich.

Democrat voters have never let the DNC down before. I recall that the DNC said that the Florida ballots (designed, presented and used) were "too complex for Democratic voters to use". And every DEM sat there and drooled in agreement.

They make a point but in reverse from reality - Biden’s policies are just as destructive even if he was fit, lively, and articulate. A point our side would do well to remember - only focusing on that issue would allow the Democrats a pass on how bad their policies are.

They are stupid - but more importantly, dedicated. Who raised the most money following the debate? Biden. The base will continue to fork over the cash, and Biden’s team will wage the living room campaign hoping they can control the narrative again like they did in 2020 with zero counter message from Trump.

Half the population is below average.

In a truly honest election, I would expect Joe Biden to get about 30% of the "popular vote".

So the left would elect Stalin or Hitler if they ran against Trump. Wow! Real nut cases.

So today’s NBC News strategy is to cite a hitherto unknown poll that asks respondents “which candidate appeared to be more cognitively challenged with Biden at 52% and Trump at 46%. Disgusting.
