No one from any planet is going to travel 26,000 light years to molest a midwestern meth head.
Movie plot idea... UFOs are actually piloted by time travelers from the future here to prevent a nuclear war that set humanity back by millennia. The time travelers succeed in their mission of stopping the war, but by doing so negate their own existence due to having altered the course of history.
1) US craft that are supposed to be Top Secret but have to be tested, and occasionally deployed, so they result in UFO sightings
2) Foreign craft that our government refuses to acknowledge due to embarrassment of not being able to create similar craft
3) Demons from Hell masquerading as aliens
4) Former Earthlings that developed advanced technology but left the surface of the Earth to avoid some cataclysm and now operate their craft from somewhere in our Solar System such as beneath the ground, under the sea, beneath the surface of the Moon, or somewhere inside Phobos.
5) Aliens from one or more distant star systems that have developed propulsion systems that we currently have no comprehension of.
6) Aliens from a parallel universe or other dimension that exist "near" us in space-time so all they have to do is overcome the barrier that separates their universe or dimension from ours.
7) The creators of this simulation which we think of as our universe. What we see as UFOs are just their scientists poking in instruments to take measurements and gather samples.

8) Some beings or phenomena of which we have no comprehension.
Because there are so many possibilities, most of which would require data and/or theories we don't currently have, I am open to the possibility that these UFO sightings are more than just natural phenomena, hoaxes from attention whores, or hallucinations of mentally disturbed individuals.
Well if they came here because they thought they could help the human race. Then they surely would have given up by now.
Perhaps this was the Soviet Union perpetuating the UFO myth to create opposition to nuclear weapons. America’s peace through strength policy has been credited for forcing the Soviet Union to lose the arms race and end the Cold War. Their bogus UFO fear program didn’t work.
