A climate activist affixed an adhesive poster to a Monet painting at the Musée d’Orsay Saturday. The woman, who said she intended to raise awareness for climate change, was arrested.
The stunt was carried out by a member of Riposte Alimentaire (Food Response), a group of environmental activists and defenders of sustainable food production in response to the climate crisis. The group has been targeting museums across Europe for years, including most recently a protest at the Louvre last month.
A video on X showed the activist sticking an adhesive barren red landscape on top of Claude Monet’s 1873 painting Coquelicots, saying, according to the Guardian, “this nightmarish image awaits us if no alternative is put in place”.
The French Impressionist’s work depicts people with umbrellas roaming through a blooming poppy field. Unlike works like Leonardo’s Mona Lisa, which has been the subject of much backlash, it was not protected by glass.
Who were the morons that decided to put this valuable painting on display without glass?
Bet you a dollar it isn’t the real painting.
These people are losers who have accomplished little. They are envious of those who have more talent than they have and it makes them angry. It’s like the racist woman basketball player who hit the more talented player.
“Just start shooting these people.”
It is noteworthy that these attacks don’t take place in jurisdictions where the clientele of the art museum are likely to be armed.
Saw this at the d’Orsay a couple of weeks ago, the largest collection of Impressionisms in the world, it was amazing to see so many wonderful pieces. It did strike me how many more of the Lourve paintings were under glass, very few of this collection was.
Most paintings at museums are not behind glass. Glass creates glares and makes it hard to really see the texture, thickness, details of the style of the paint. Usually museum goers are civilized enough that this is no problem and only a benefit. Of course, most museums don’t contend with crazy, tasteless, radical leftists trying to damage great art.
If someone defaces or attempts to deface a priceless piece of civilization, instant execution. No questions asked.
Savages
Just like the Taliban
Funny!
You’re hot tonight.
o the irony
These people ought to be taken out and horse whipped.
Chop her hands off. Both. Sick of them.
These paintings are I’m sure insured to the max, why don’t the insurance companies get on the Museums for their lax security?
That does it. This is a conspiracy engaged in destroying the cultural heritage not just of the French but of the world. They shouldn’t just start shooting these people. They should finish shooting these people.
First offense - Saudi response for thievery.
Second offense - Saudi response for female adultery.
The Frenchies don’t have the stones to do that.
I am.
The art that's in the Orsay (and other major museums) was selected because it's a material link to our past. If we allow them to continue this terrorism, even if they don't destroy the art they still will destroy our access to it. In which case we lose a link to our past that has no substitute.
As it is now they get little more than a slap on the wrist, and it makes them a hero among their peeps. The way the officials are dealing with it now WILL NOT stop them. The only way to stop them is to inflict a punishment that's so severe and so certain that they're not willing to bear it.
Kill them where they stand. If they glue themselves to a work of art, ... that's what the Sawzall was made for (but cover the art with a tarp first to protect it from the splatter).
