Open AI says…
The 1970 movie “Colossus: The Forbin Project” explores the theme of artificial intelligence (AI) surpassing human control, leading to fears of an AI takeover. While the movie’s depiction of an omniscient and omnipotent AI may be exaggerated, the underlying concerns about AI’s potential risks and ethical implications are legitimate.
Some of the fears presented in the movie that are still relevant today include:
• Loss of human agency and control: As AI systems become more advanced and autonomous, there is a risk of humans losing control over decision-making processes.
• Unintended consequences: AI systems can have unforeseen and potentially harmful effects, such as biases, errors, or amplification of existing social inequalities.
• Security and privacy risks: AI systems can compromise sensitive information and pose security risks if not designed with appropriate safeguards.
• Ethical considerations: AI raises ethical concerns around accountability, responsibility, and the potential for AI to make life-or-death decisions.
While the movie’s portrayal of an AI singularity may be sensationalized, it highlights the importance of responsible AI development, ethical considerations, and ongoing research in AI safety and governance.
Don’t give AI any ideas... 😀
If you want to know how dangerous AI really is I suggest you read “Summoning the Demon” artificial intelligence and the image of the beast, by Dr Thomas Horn. The rubicon has already been crossed.
FLASH THERE IS ANOTHER MECHANISM.
Sad what happened to Patty Lane’s dad becuae of Colossus but we find out what he really did for a living.
I have the DVD. Never could find it on a streaming service.
The scene where Colossus and Guardian establish communication is so well done and compelling. The visuals and the sound are superb. (I had their consoles as a Zoom background for a while and I would do that to see people’s reactions.) Being done in 1969-70 gives the technology a grittiness that wouldn’t be there today. Highly recommend watching it and the books by DF Jones.
One of my favorite movies. Classic.
Ping.

1) Colossus: The Forbin Project
2) The Fall Of Colossus
3) Colossus And Crab
The Colossus Trilogy is a joy. The movie is fantastic. The soundtrack and visuals of the first two minutes is also very entertaining.
“Action will be taken” never sounded so ominous.
Bkmk

One of my favorite Sci-Fi movies. Neat how they used the Computer font in the credits to add to the aura.
