1947: Rudolf Höss, Auschwitz commandant

April 16, 1947, was the hanging-date of Auschwitz commandant Rudolf Höss.

Not to be confused with the Rudolf Hess, the Nazi party defector held by the British in lonely confinement in Spandau until 1987, Höss was true to the swastika from beginning to end.

A World War I survivor, our guy joined the right-wing Freikorps paramilitaries and scored NSDAP party number no. 3240 in 1922 — soon thereafter proving a willingness to shed blood for the cause by murdering a teacher suspected of betraying to the French the Nazi martyr figure Albert Leo Schlageter. Höss served only a year in prison for the crime.....

They did make an agreement with the German right to get Hitler appointed chancellor... but that was basically a “you conservatives are going to lose either way, do you want to lose to us? Or to the communists who will murder you?” type of thing.

It was a personal vendetta between Von Papen and Von Schleicher.

Rudolf’s grandson Rainer was one of the descendants (most were collateral, great-niece, great-nephew, etc) of the top Nazis featured in the 2011 film, Hitler’s Children.

The photo of Höss standing on the hanging stool was shown in the film. I wasn’t surprised, considering it was the Poles who hanged him, that it was by short drop.

I got interested in US Army hangings because I had a question about the way it was done in Lee Marvin’s The Dirty Dozen and started researching it.

I’ve found several news stories from the Nuremberg executions stating they used “standard” drop hanging, but I have a copy of the army regulation for executions from that period and it prescribes long drop hanging. It doesn’t seem to make much sense to bring in a man whose profession was long drop hangings (MSgt John Woods), and who had done more than 300 of them, only to have him do standard drop.

Still looking for a better-placed and authoritative source.

The Czechs had the most interesting way of hanging.

Czechoslovakia used a stout vertical wooden pole (or post) of around 3 meters in height and around 30-40 cm in width, with a metal hook or eye bolt or pulley at the top to which a rope noose was attached. There was either a ladder or steps up to a small platform at the back of the pole for the executioner to stand on. The pinioned prisoner was placed with their back to the pole and then lifted up either manually by the hangman’s assistants, on a simple board platform or by a cloth or leather sling running under their armpits so that the executioner could put the noose round their neck. At the signal they were now jerked downwards by the assistants thus tightening the noose. This jerk combined with the thinness of the cord typically caused a carotid reflex and led to rapid unconsciousness. It is unclear when pole hanging ceased although it was definitely in use until after the end of World War II and was used on various war criminals such as Karl Frank and Herta Kasparova. A video of the hanging of Karl Hermann Frank which took place on the 22nd of May 1946 in Prague’s Pankrác prison is currently available on YouTube. He was lifted up to the top of the pole by a sling and then dropped about two feet, the hangman covering Frank’s face with his hand. The ankle rope ran over a pulley or wheel. This film clearly demonstrates how pole hanging worked and does not give the impression that Frank struggled after suspension.

Using socialist was a marketing decision to win over the populace who were in dire straits financially.

The nazis were no more socialist than North Korea is a democratic republic.

There was certainly “socialists” in the Nazi movement, namely Goebbels and Ernst Rhoem, who advocated a complete government takeover of German industry. This was one of the reasons he was eliminated, because he scared off the German industrialists, who Hitler needed to build the war machine.

What’s interesting is to contemplate what would have become of the industrialists, once they were no longer needed.

Hoss was convicted by the Communist Polish government, and old fashioned slow hanged using a step stool.

And then those same Communists executed Witold Pilecki, who actually escaped from Auschwitz, and alerted the Polish Home Army about its existence.

Of course it’s all more complicated, always is.

Merely saying socialist is in their name so they’re socialists, is inaccurate and lazy.

Yup, I agree. It was not worth reading with the misuse of the term “right-wing”.

Someone apparently doesn’t know the difference between the Freikorps and the National Socialists.

You probably also don’t know what happened to the Strasserites and the other socialist in the the party.

Germany briefly did fall under power of the Bolsheviks, and it may very well had gone Communist without the Freikorps.

The way some Youtubers word their titles makes it seem that some people are upset that poor Hoss may have been mistreated somehow.

No, that has nothing to do with why I posted this. I have never heard of that movie. I’ve posted these Executed Today posts almost every day for four years now.

Read the book titled “Death Dealer The Memoirs of the SS Kommandant at Auschwitz”, edited by Steven Paskuly years ago. Wanted to try to understand the mind of a man whose job it was to manage efficiently the murder and burn the corpses of 4,000 people in a day, and then walk across the compound after his shift was over and eat dinner with his wife and five children. Never could understand that.

I'll leave you with your fantasies intact.

My Great Grandfather fought in the Civil War on the other side, which slightly taints my view of that conflict.   Dream on.

Tracked down by a German Jew! Oh man, that’s gotta put fire in the belly of modern day Nazis. Their comments on Bitchute are nauseating. Circa 1930’s over there on the Ukraine threads.
