New York Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul on Wednesday announced that she is deploying 1,000 National Guard soldiers and State Police officers to patrol the New York City subway and check bags following major crime spikes in the transportation system.
Referring to multiple recent high-profile assaults as she made the announcement, Hochul said, "These brazen heinous attacks on our subway system will not be tolerated."
Hochul said the program will focus on "repeat offenders, deterring crime and protecting the people in our subways."

Now NYC looks like a 3rd world toilet. When you see troops on the street for every day duty, you know it’s bad.
Misuse of National Guard.
They need to build more prisons and get rid of liberal prosecutors and hire more police.
Hmmm, the police used to do that quite well. I wonder what could have happened to them. Oh yeah, it must have been COVID.
And when someone runs away from them? What is some kid from upstate going to do?
The can search because its a transportation system. This happened during the Boston Marathon bombing as well.
One has to wonder if they are looking for “something else.”
That’s the real goal. Make things bad enough that people welcome military law.
Don’t those guys have day jobs?
why?
What can National Guard do?
After Kent State they really can’t do more than fill sand bags
4th amendment isn’t an issue here nor is commerce clause and impeding travel..../S
But I'll bet she is rabidly opposed to send the NG to the Texas border.
Gee, Princess Kathy, What went wrong with your beautiful, safe and efficient public transportation system? With Congestion Pricing this will be the death knell for Broadway, restaurants, hotels, and all of the major tourist attractions in GnuYakSitty.
The irony is delicious. Tennessee sends ANG to the Texas border. NY sends them to the MTA in NYC. Perfectly exemplifies the dichotomy between Red and Blue States.
It seems dubious. Maybe they can legally, for now. I’m not sure. I wonder though if it can stand Constitionally. It’s a public utility. From that approach I see no distinction between a subway or a bus or a roadway or a sidewalk.
These patrols enter be in ‘no shit’ more or they’re gonna be in trouble.
Back to “stop and frisk” I see.
Marshal Law?
“Marshal Law?”
It’s times like this I wish FR had a DELETE button.
And when they have to use lethal force New York will try to jail them.
The way my son in law explained it (he did this during Boston) was they could search, but they couldn’t “arrest.” So, if you had drugs in your bag, they couldn’t do anything about it. It was looking for specific things ‘terror related.”
But that was a long time ago and under very different circumstances.
Reduce crime? Easy peasy. No laws. No crime
Crump said in the special. “I believe this with everything in my heart – we can get rid of all the crime in America overnight, just like that, and people ask, ‘How, Attorney Crump?’
“Change the definition of ‘crime,’” he continued. “If you get to define what conduct is going to be made criminal, you can predict who the criminals are going to be. … They made the laws to criminalize our culture, Black culture.”
