For four years, Amy Nelson and her family have endured one of the most disgusting abuses of power and privilege we’ve seen waged against an American family. It involves mega-retailer Amazon, their team of fifty attorneys, and the Department of Justice.
In short, the Nelson family have been targeted for complete financial destruction. Seizures have been made. Threats continue incessantly. All the while, no charges have been filed and all of the evidence points to the Nelsons being innocent.

Lately it seems to me that there are lots of FReepers who are A-OK with the blog pimpers. They stick up for them often.
A husband and wife have been in a legal battle with Amazon and the Department of Justice (DOJ) for three years, after Amazon accused the husband of fraud and kickbacks related to his former job at AWS. The Nelsons claim that they are innocent and that Amazon has been harassing them with false allegations, seizing their bank accounts, raiding their home, and forcing them to spend millions on legal fees.
The DOJ is involved because it has the authority to investigate and prosecute cases of fraud, corruption, and other crimes that may affect the public interest or national security. The DOJ alleges that Casey Nelson, Amy’s husband, received kickbacks from a real estate developer while working at Amazon Web Services (AWS), and that he used his position to steer AWS contracts to the developer’s properties. The DOJ claims that this scheme defrauded Amazon and the U.S. government of millions of dollars, and that it violated the federal anti-kickback statute, the wire fraud statute, and the honest services fraud statute. The DOJ also accuses the husband of obstructing justice by lying to investigators and deleting evidence. The DOJ’s case is separate from the civil lawsuit that Amazon filed against the husband, which seeks to recover damages and enforce a non-compete agreement. The civil lawsuit is currently on hold pending the outcome of the criminal trial.
Gratuitous image of innocent party:
Is this a new thing on FR, to leave hints of a story with no follow up?
Thanks for the clarification. I was about to dig up the bunny with the pancake on its head.
Allow me to translate: "Federal pieces of cr@p threatened two people with 100 years in jail unless they pled guilty to these BS charges. Being smart, they did."
What is this all about? Why not tell us, and don’t beat around the bush? Are we forbidden to know?
Amazon alleged a crime of private sector honest services fraud - meaning, Amazon had to prove that my husband violated his duty to them as an employee.
SO AMAZON LIED ABOUT THE DUTY. They said my husband wasn't authorized to do biz w/ entities doing biz w/ Amazon.
This linked compost article at the feed explains a lot of it.

Paywall, unless you give them a fake email. Is what it is.
Very strange story, but evidence of more weaponization of DOJ.
Finally, somebody made this thread worthwhile!
Amazon going after this guy and the Justice Dept. seemingly abusing their power by not looking at the guys employment contract before seizing his assets.
Thanks for the ping…..my head was spinning earlier .

I read a long article about this case about a year ago. I’m not dumb, but I was still confused at the end. It is soooo convoluted.
what’s going on? from what i read in the thread it’s pretty simple. imho:
a billionaire bully corrupt company (bezos) is using it’s money, lawyers, and gov’t influence with the DOJ, executing civil asset forfeiture in a civil suit, *without even a charge of a crime* lodged (let alone proven) against this family (husband). what bezos charge is against his former employee is at this point irrelevant to me.
1. why is the gov’t being his attack dog? (obvious answer, given the emails provided).
2. and why isn’t there a charge against this man. and why was the case against him dismissed? (obvious answer) he probably didn’t violate any law or agreement.
3. why is bezos now appealing? (obvious answer) he has unlimited money and this is vindictive lawfare.
sounds pretty cut and dried to me. shrugs.
What did I just read?
The US is more and more openly a corrupt oligarchy: we have the best government money can buy. The revolving doors between government, white shoe law firms and the C-Suite ensure that everyone at the top has a “buddy” ready to lend a hand.
thank you...
thx...
Clearly not guilty.
interesting, so none of CHAT’s blurb that outside the fact of the civil suit and DOJ seizing assets, comports with anything (fact or implication) i got from the post/thread. so either the post or CHAT is being selective and/or mendacious.
