Once it sets in cultural disintegration is nearly impossible to turn around. We have abandoned any notions of punishing socially destructive behavior and the amount of nonsense and insanity we tolerate is simply amazing. And it seems to only be getting worse.

It's actually in the preamble to the Constitution.
