In the pre-Trump era, Establishment GOP’ers wielded most of the party’s power. Not true anymore, but they are not going down without a fight.

They still control the party by a fair margin, even though they are the minority among GOP voters by a fairly wide margin. They have their stoogette in place at the RNC in the form of Ronna Romney, who has been dutifully sitting on her hands while the country falls apart.

It is becoming obvious that there are RINOs today that will fight to the point of bringing everything down to prevent conservatives from taking control of the Republican party! Example: rumor that House Dems are willing to make a deal with RINOs to elect Liz Cheney as Speaker of the House.

This compares with what happened to the do-nothing Whigs before the 'civil war' of 1860; elements of the party that were determined to stand up for something in a national crisis reformed the Whigs as Republicans and the rest is history. The rest of the Whigs and their 'time' faded into oblivion.
