The Godfather is a “mob movie” in roughly the same sense that Casablanca is a “World War II movie.” The mafia context of The Godfather is merely the background for a Greek tragedy about family loyalty and personal honor. Although Michael’s father had hoped to spare his youngest son from the family’s crime business, a series of crises makes it necessary — inevitable, a matter of fate — that Michael step in to become the family’s next leader.

This attack came on the 50th anniversary of the 1973 Yom Kippur War. For young people in Israel, that war is something they study in history class, but now its significance — Israel’s struggle to survive when hit by a sudden attack from its enemies — must be perfectly apparent to them.

The flippant comment that provoked this consideration — dismissing Hamas as “pimps,” like Tataglia, so that Iran is the Barzini behind the scenes — was actually a clever analogy, but the larger drama is this: A younger generation of Israelis must finally abandon the illusion of “peace” with the Palestinians.

Yet it has been bizarre American policy that peace will come to the region only if there is established an independent, armed Palestinian state adjacent to Israel. Either there is a Palestine or an Israel. There cannot be both. Hence there will never be peace. Israelis have to live with that fact or leave. That is the cruel reality Israeli children must learn. They are now witnessing the consequences of losing just one battle. The consequences of losing just one war are unimaginable.

Do you see how The Godfather is relevant? It was not Michael’s choice. That choice was made for him by his father’s enemies

If that is the case it does not bode well for Israel. Michael Corleone killing his enemies just made more enemies. Friends and family wind up getting caught in the whirlwind and everything ends in ruin.

What I know about Israel might fit in a thimble, but I suspect that the smart move is not to start by attacking Hamas in Gaza, but by taking out as much of Hezbollah in Lebanon as possible. Do it big.

I thought it was a great analogy, and I disagree it only ends up with Israel losing much. The problem with Israel, is they are Jews. Even in the OT, they could not bring themselves to listen to God Almighty. KILL YOUR ENEMIES, KILL THEM ALL. It is the only way. Take the Caananites out. Pali’s go away, and destroy Irans centrifuges and their missiles. Put their power back into the age of guns and bombs strapped to idiots.
