House Republicans make history by decapitating themselves. Now what?

Now things will really change! Eight members of the House Republican caucus combined with House Democrats to remove a Republican Speaker for the crime of … [checks notes] … allegedly working with Democrats.

And now, the House will grind to a halt while Republicans pick the next Speaker, who will still have to work with a Senate run by Democrats and a Democrat in the White House to accomplish anything other than investigations. Which, by the way, Kevin McCarthy already had operating.

So what comes next? Probably more epic faceplanting.

The most likely way out of this impasse will be to find someone acceptable to enough Democrats to overcome the Rebel Alliance in the GOP. That’s what McClintock means, and that will be precisely where Gaetz et al will have led the Republican majority. And to get there, the GOP will likely have to give up its investigations into Biden Inc in order to get the House back underway.

"Jeffries is the Minority Leader of the House. If the Democrats control the vote for the next Speaker as they did the vote for McCarthy's ouster, he'll be the next Speaker."

They are all a year away from an election. Months away from having to campaign again. Which (R)'s do you think would vote for Jeffries?

No more CRs. Didn’t happen.
Do debt ceiling increases without border security. Didn’t happen.

Not exactly “history.” In 1859 the House was so divided they never even elected a speaker.

We’re fine.

When John Cornyn is agin’ ya, you’ve won.

Meanwhile, if NOTHING gets passed from the House, so what? Nothing GOOD will get through the Senate, and if all they were gonna do anyway was “investigate” and not actually impeach, it’s still a win.

When gubment is doing NOTHING it’s a win.

the greatest crime of this Congress is that they have sat on their thumbs while the DOJ has deprived the J6 prisoners of due process and civil rights

All Congressional business should be forced to cease until this is rectified

Right, McCarthy proposed a temporary spending bill that would have cut spending and secured the border, but idiots like Gaetz opposed it

It appeared evident even before the vote that the stopgap bill was bound to fail, as several hard-right Republicans had declared that they would not back a temporary spending bill, known as a continuing resolution, under any circumstances. And the measure — which would slash spending and impose severe immigration restrictions — never had a chance of preventing a shutdown, since it was regarded as a nonstarter in the Democratic-controlled Senate.

The size of the group of defectors was striking, reflecting both Mr. McCarthy’s weak hold on his conference and the influence of the far right in the House. The bill failed by a vote of 232-198, with 21 Republicans joining all Democrats to oppose it.

“Every time we vote for a continuing resolution, we make no changes in policy or spending,” said Representative Matt Gaetz, Republican of Florida, who led the charge against Mr. McCarthy’s funding plan. “It’s a vote to continue the status quo.”

Or, maybe the RINOs can set aside their arrogance and instead unify with the rest of the party behind one GOP rep that actually has leadership qualities. McCarthy wasn't the guy, and shouldn't have been the guy to begin with.

He's not going to be Speaker.

As soon as the Dems get the majority, Jeffries becomes Speaker. It's set in stone.

OK, then nothing gets done until something better than McCarthy stands for the seat. Gaetz played his hand, and now he just has to not cave.

Tell me how they come out any weaker? They've been ridden like a two dollar hooker for the last three years by the democrats, tell me how it can get any worse? When what you're doing is utterly failing then doing anything is better than continuing on the same path.

Good riddance to McCarthy. Now go find someone that will fight these evil bastards instead of rolling over and showing his belly.
