There are also streets with “bad Kids” on them. Bad dogs and bad kids are a function of their “parents”. It’s that simple.

Kids and dogs can be trained, disciplined and developed by good trainers and good parents.

What did you do to piss off the dog?

A LOT of dogs have unrealistic conceptions of their territory. Our own controlled little dog is harmless but barks when the people across the street are working on the front lawn or moving cars around.

My Canadian sister-in-law who has a compromised immune system was badly hurt on a walk when a small ankle biter went across the street to bite her. Worse, when she called the police and they went to check if the dog had been vaccinated, the dog owners got the dog vaccinated after the bite but in anticipation of the police. So, my sister-in-law had to get rabies shots.

The same bad dog owners continued to not restrain the dog. The dog charged again, this time my sister-in-law was accompanied by my ordinarily mild but athletic brother-in-law. He kicked the dog clear across the street this time. The owners were mad at my siblings-in-law, and the dog had to be euthanized. No shortage of bad dog owners, and that dog had a bad end because of it.

LOL on twatter just this morning - like a couple of hours ago - I was posting about my criminal neighbors putting on a scene yesterday late afternoon about how they tortured/killed a puppy. They used a recording of a howling pup and then pretended to pick it up and then tortured/killed it. They wanted for me to come and “save” the puppy and accused me of being the bad guy for not springing up and rescuing the puppy.

It was probably a mock-up. They usually do this with cats. A couple of times they have pretended to abuse a crying baby. I hope they were pretending. Don’t tell me to call the cops - that only makes it worse. Once someone on twatter posted some pics of cats that had been tortured and beheaded, so I suppose in some contexts it’s NOT just a fantasy. It was hard to tell what was going on in the posted photos, but since I had been listening to them TALK about it... I didn’t report it but the same people are still trying to get me to notice what they are doing.

They’re on this forum, too.

I hope it’s just talk and fantasy, but even then it’s bad enough. I know people are showing up here who are into torture and think of talking about/describing torture (including recordings of people/animals screaming and crying) as freedom of speech.

Ha.

Just so you’ll know, my money’s on: “They are criminals trying to shout down and suppress true freedom of speech,” but what do I know....?

I had a spaniel as a kid, two other dogs as an adult until I reached my late forties. Despite really liking dogs, I don’t like the sanitary aspects and the restrictions on travel and have stayed dog free for the past 26 years.

Yard mess, hair, stink, drool, pee, marking, fleas, waking me a six to go out, etc. etc.

Not me. I understand and agree with what you posted.

Opinion: most people aren't up to the task of owning an unaltered dog. Would I outlaw it? No. (Locally, if you get a dog or cat from the shelter, it is required that it be spayed or neutered.)

Vincent:
Want some bacon?

Jules:
No man, I don’t eat pork.

Vincent:
Are you Jewish?

Jules:
Nah, I ain’t Jewish, I just don’t dig on swine, that’s all.

Vincent:
Why not?

Jules:
Pigs are filthy animals. I don’t eat filthy animals.

Vincent:
Bacon tastes gooood. Pork chops taste gooood.

Jules:
Hey, sewer rat may taste like pumpkin pie, but I’d never know ‘cause I wouldn’t eat the filthy motherf***er. Pigs sleep and root in sh*t. That’s a filthy animal. I ain’t eat nothin’ that ain’t got enough sense enough to disregard its own faeces.

Vincent:
How about a dog? Dogs eats its own feces.

Jules:
I don’t eat dog either.

Vincent:
Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal?

Jules:
I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Vincent:
Ah, so by that rationale, if a pig had a better personality, he would cease to be a filthy animal. Is that true?

Jules:
Well we’d have to be talkin’ about one charmin’ motherf***in’ pig. I mean he’d have to be ten times more charmin’ than that Arnold on Green Acres, you know what I’m sayin’?

“The same mindset that scoffs at your blaming the dog and its owner, is the same mindset that cheers on looting and victim-shaming.”

I haven’t seen anyone giving the owner a pass. So why did you say that?

Some folks won’t ever accept any reason at all for a person claiming not to like dogs. That person doesn’t need to justify anything. It is what it is. We don’t all like the same things. People have a right to their own opinion.
That sounds exactly like what hardline Liberals do, when your way differs from their way.

Me, personally, I love dogs and cats, have owned a few in my life, and I wish I owned one right now, but my Apt. doesn’t allow it. I miss having them in my life. So for now, I behave and follow the rules. This Property Manager is watchful. Some would say he’s nosy.

Sometimes, a bad or lazy owner can turn people off from accepting dogs. Meaning, when I meet someone and their dog, I’m usually not in the mood to have it jump all over me, unbidden. An owner needs to hold that leash, or at least try to train their pet not to do that.

I was bit viciously many years ago by a dog for whom I had just put down his food for him - I was caring for it for a neighbor while she was away for a weekend.

But that dog’s history, before my neighbor adopted it, more or less settled its personality. He was - by the previous owner - always on a chain outside, where he could only go a certain distance from a dog house, a dog house that was never cleaned. His prior slave-holder treated him badly, even taking food away from him sometimes.

I had forgotten my neighbor’s instruction to change his water first before putting his food down for him. I had just set his food down and was reaching for the water dish when he bit me - hard, high up on the thigh with a grip that required I hit him with a board to get him off.

THAT experience did not make me a hater of dogs. I am still a “dog loving” person.

I blame dog owners for most of the bad dogs.

Yep, people who don’t secure their dogs on a leash deserve everything they get. I have *zero* patience for them.

I had an incident this past weekend where a large German Shepherd ran over and jumped up as if to put his paws on my chest, which I was prepared for, but instead he wrapped his mouth around my hand. Didn’t break the skin, but I felt his teeth on my fingers as took my hand away.

The owner was really sorry.

My brother’s an idiot, too. He once asked to walk my dog around the park. I handed him the leash, and he started walking, but got upset every time the dog paused to smell something. If you can’t understand that walking a dog is different than walking by yourself, you’re really not too bright. Dogs have never liked him...even ones that don’t know him.

My wife's family had a dog that was legendary within the family. Seems each person had a favorite story about 'Skipper' and some of the things he had done: Holding a toddler's diaper to prevent him from falling down the basement stairs, running to and then breaking the fall of a toddler who had fallen out of the window (yeah, the same toddler) and other stories.

But the heartbreaker was when her father took him to the vet, as the time had come to put him down. Skipper was sitting on the floor next to Phil. The vet came into the waiting room, Skipper stood up, licked Phil's hand, then lowered his head to the floor and walked to the vet. At the door Skipper turned, looked at Phil, barked twice, then walked away.

Phil never allowed for another dog, as he said he would not put himself through that again.

Not that long ago, dogs were never secured. They however were trained.

But in my day it was not only legal but an obligation to shoot an unsecured dog that was making trouble. My Dad killed one almost every year on our farm.

I can't say I HATE dogs, but I'd never own one. Too much time spent managing their behaviour. Cats potty-train themselves. Cats don't roll in gut-piles. Or eat shit. Cats never tangle with skunks. Or get bitten by rattlers. Cats never need to be bathed. They never attack the neighbors or their pets. They keep my house 10% free of mice.

I could go on......
