I bet it was closer to 3-500 killed. Ukraine is also blaming Russia for the dam destruction, but it benefits Ukraine, not Russia, as the land on their side of the river is lower and the canal to Crimea is useless. When the reservoir is drained, the Nuke Power plant up stream will have no cooling water and will have to be shut down. NONE of this benefits Russia. Ukraine did it.
Russia controlled the dam. The reservoir build up to its highest level in recent years before the damn went, Russia let that happen. There were seismic readings about the explosion. No weapon in the Ukrainian inventory hits hard enough to take out a damn so quickly.
Russia let the reservoir rise, then used demolition charges internally.
“That’s why this is a WWI style trench warfare right now.”
One reason.
A bigger one probably is that neither side can organise a multi echelon attack, to break through and exploit.
The Ukrainians lack materiel, artillery and armor, They managed such “maneuver warfare” type attacks last year, against depleted and scattered Russians without a continuous front. But something more is required now that there is a continuous front.
The Russians failed last year when they had the means but not the skill or preparation. And they failed again at Izyum. And now because of losses of equipment and cadre, they seem even less capable. To add, the Ukrainians have means of long range interdiction (HIMARS) that keeps them from concentrating for a multi echelon attack.
Yes they hate him and they got him off the air.
It hinders a Ukrainian crossing of the Dneiper, as the east bank will be a roadless mess of mud without defined channels for ferries.
“I too would like to have some scriptural citations”
Gladly. Simply P.M. me to just ask so that I might not be accused of proselytization.
“But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.
For it is better, if it is God’s will, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil. For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit.” -1 Peter 3:15-18
Yup. Including yours.

Their best chance was on day one when they went for Kyiv. Even if they were able to take Kyiv, they didn't have enough troops to occupy the city.

I apologize.
Wow! I thought most images would just transfer!
You are very close.
Great work. Now for the deflection part.
OH wait! I see that has already happened.
Hydraulic structures such as dams, wiers, barrages, head regulators, cross-drainage works, etc., may either be founded on an impervious solid rock foundation or on a pervious foundation. Whenever, such a structure is founded on a pervious foundation, it is subjected to seep of water beneath the structure, in addition to all other forces to which it will be subjected when founded on an impervious rock foundation . . . The water seeping below the body of the hydraulic structure, endangers the stability of the structure . . .

“Difference between a “dam” and a “barrage dam”
Thank you for info.
I read Russia blocked some gates to build the dam to a record high. Also, Russia had placed explosives beneath the water. I will try to re-find source : can’t remember if video or article source... maybe, someone else has at their fingertips! LOL
