Well...this was really Normans (French) against the French crown. So more of a civil war.
If I recall correctly, the English were occupying France, or parts of France, at the time.
Yes I was just being cute. The Normans were a group given the area of Normandy by the French king. They then invaded and took over England. Later to return to France in way of an invasion. I am not wholly up on medieval history so I don’t know what comprised the “English” army. I am guessing that the knights were Normans and spoke only French, and the foot soldiers were Britons (mix of celts and saxons). I am probably over simplifying what was a very complex ethnic mixing.
But I do wonder if the English today feel they owe reparations to the Saxons among them.
