Vulgar Displays of Power
The Ivy Exile ^ | 21 Mar 2023 | Ivy Exile

During the Obama years professional progressives could afford a certain smug magnanimity, confident that demographic change had bequeathed permanent lock on power. It was smarter to nudge the great unwashed toward what was decided than boil the frog too quickly.

So the populist reaction of 2016 struck many as profound betrayal: perpetrators had to be punished, examples made, and push brought to shove. What began as institutional resistance amid the Trump interregnum has become actively vengeful governance under the Biden regime—a policy agenda nonsensical as to most of its official objectives but coldly strategic as retribution against structural opposition, not just punishing saboteurs but putting subjects in their place.

Whether wrecking American energy to wreak far worse environmental damage elsewhere, printing enough funny money to substantially devalue the dollar, insisting on demonstrably harmful Covid mandates, or ushering in millions and millions of unvetted migrants, it amounts to a sort of shock treatment to corral and humiliate an unruly electorate that has been found wanting.

Yet the crass opportunism only guarantees greater backlash and further delegitimizes the actual progressive project, or whatever’s left of it. Generations of hard work and good faith have been squandered in just a few short years, trading credibility and potential for spiteful self-indulgence.

Here is a wild hair of a thought spawned from a night of beer and debate.

Why did Hillary and the Obamaites surrender the 2016 election outcome without the shenanigans we saw in 2020? Was Trump allowed to win to set the stage for 2020 and all it entailed and what came after?

I think they were just smugly over-confidant.

“Why did Hillary and the Obamaites surrender the 2016 election outcome without the shenanigans we saw in 2020?”

Well, they didn’t really. Hillary refused to concede, remember? They kept up the charade for at least a couple days hoping that they could “find” enough votes to reverse Trump’s surprise wins in the Midwest, but I believe they were only able to reverse the count in one of those states, and it was not enough.

They simply didn’t expect Trump to win in states that they thought were firmly in the “blue” column, so they had not bothered to prepare the necessary resources for vote fraud in those areas. So once they realized what was happening, it was a little late for them to scramble and magically produce 100,000 ballots for Hillary from thin air. In 2020, they made sure they were ready.

Actually, they thought they had cheated enough for Hillary to take the Presidency and it turned out Trump was even more popular than they could have imagined!

That’s why they doubled down on 2020 to make sure they sealed the deal with a candidate who didn’t even have a campaign.

“That’s why they doubled down on 2020 to make sure they sealed the deal with a candidate who didn’t even have a campaign.”

And they were so afraid of a repeat of 2016 (and I think they knew Trump was going to get far more votes in 2020) that they frauded their way to 81 MILLION bogus votes for Dementia Joe, which was so absurd that they gave themselves away to anyone with even a small amount in of skepticism.

Clinton conceded the following morning.

I believe she (or more accurately, perhaps, her campaign) released a statement the next day. I don’t believe she ever made the usual concession speech or statement herself at all. I don’t think she ever called Trump to congratulate him either.

No. Just no. She called Trump the following day, conceded and gave a concession speech the morning after the election.

All easily verified with Google searches. Video and everything.

Making stuff up helps no one.

Do you remember the early days of the Trump administration?!

All those leaks, POTUS having to move out for a while so that all the bugs could be found? It was nuts, there was no “surrender”, the Trump administration got basically carjacked!

That happened during the transition. Trump went from Trump Tower to his New Jersey property on the advice of LTG Flynn and the other Admiral (Rogers?).
