I Truly Miss Our Tobacco Smoking Culture .
The paraphernalia. The rituals. The camaraderie. The cigarettes and cigars and pipes.
The rituals. The coffee and cigarettes. The pipe and brandy. The smoky jazz clubs. .
It was an age. In retrospect it added texture to our lives.
There it is under browse by forum

LOL.

It’s an interesting graph. I suppose there are other factors pushing obesity such as not getting enough exercise — thanks to modern conveniences.
Hopefully someone in the medical profession will comment on this graph.
I do too, especially Chesterfields.
Thanks for the memories!
“Yeah the one drinking alcohol gets in a car and kills a bunch of kids. You have a unique way of heroship.”
What the heck are you talking about? I never said anything about getting in a car, killing kids or heroism. You’re just babbling.
The rate of new lung cancer cases (incidence) over the past 42 years has dropped 36 percent for men while it has risen 84 percent for women. In 1975, rates were low for women, but rising for both men and women...
They smell great...and you really can't inhale them..they will kill ya!!
LOL!!! Good one!
As opposed to today’s censorship of news and opinion, Americans back then had the freedom to use their judgement.
I am old enough to remember when America was normal.
When was the last time America was normal?
More power to you. I hope you equal or live longer than your dad. Try some of the excellent Dominican cigars that are available, and thank you for paying taxes that I don't have to.
My grandfather died at 89 and smoked from 1917 (WWI veteran) until 1979 when he died. He was, of course, on oxygen and had to have his left leg amputated because of poor circulation. Both of my in-laws died of smoking related disease (lung cancer and emphysema). I was lucky enough to quit at age 20 after only 4 years of smoking.
I ride motorcycles (still have two at age 72). I'm willing to take the personal risk and fully support your right to risk your health. I think that's one of the reasons we both love the USA. Freedom.
The smoking lamp is lit. Smoke 'em if you've got 'em.
At 73, I am too, and often relish re-visiting those days, years and people, in my memory.
“I think that’s one of the reasons we both love the USA. Freedom.”
Yep. You get to make your lifestyle choices and I get to make mine. Then we both get to live with the consequences.
Let property owners decide if they want to allow smoking in their establishments or not. A sign at the door let’s the public know one way or the other. Then people can choose whether or not they want to patronize it.

<>When was the last time America was normal?<>
I’ll start with before The Great Society.
Others may argue for before The New Deal.
I have been smoking cigars for decades including a wide variety of Dominicans, Hondurans and Nicaraguans.
The last few years I was able to mail order (from Europe and Australia) Cubans when the prices were reasonable and they are now my favorites—much smoother with a lot more flavor than the others.
Unfortunately these days the Cubans have exploded in price—from double to four or five times what they were even in 2021. The island’s economy has completely collapsed and they are exporting about a third of the quantity they were in 2021.
(I have a lifetime supply so it does not affect me—but I feel bad for newbies getting into it now.)
Much more social too
You should be firehosed out of existence, Granny Birdlegs
I have a simple measure for the greatness of a society—the beauty of the airline stewardesses.
In the US that peaked by the middle 1960s, went gradually downhill from there, and then crashed and burned in the last couple of decades.
